GAY IS ONLY A LITTLE WORD
GAY IS ONLY A LITTLE WORD Earlier this year, plans were unveiled to build a gay village on the outskirts of Tilburg in the Netherlands. The Gay Village project aimed to give gay people the opportunity to live in luxury accommodation within a gated community. According to the project’s website, the community will have “its own supermarket, tennis court, a cooking school, a chapel or a gym, so you live in a quiet green area with all mod cons.” Soon after the plans announced, and widely denounced by many, it was revealed that the plans were a hoax organised by Roze Maandag (Pink Monday), which wanted to raise awareness of homophobia. Roze Maandag stated: “Although Gay Village is not real, intolerance against the gay community is”. A spokesperson said: “We are happy with the thousands of negative, and the fewer positive, reactions. It is great to hear that the majority is against the idea." Do you think a purpose-built gay village will ever be built? Have you ever hoaxed someone or been hoaxed? What do you see in the photograph above? By the fourteenth century, the word gay meant beautiful. By the end of the fourteenth century, it meant joyous and merry. By the 1970s, the word meant a homosexual man. And at the start of this century, gay now also means bad. That’s quite a journey for a little word! |

I imagine a lot of objections were from people who want, but don't have, that kind of community for themselves. I live in a village that doesn't have a shop, let alone a supermarket, cooking school and gym The less envious and more pragmatic objectors probably thought that a "gay ghetto" would not be a good idea - segregation only enhances the notion of "us and them". On a bit of a tangent, British politicians seem to have gone into a gay frenzy! Last week Milliband was talking about meeting strangers on Hampstead Heath; last night Cameron said he wants to see gay men kissing in public! And today Theresa May and Edwina Currie demonstrated to the Tory conference how to use a double-ended dildo (That might be a hoax )

1. No, I really hope not, we're all just people, we really need to learn to live together, not apart. 2. Och goodness me, aye, many times, both ways! 3. One bloke tupping another, fair play, to each their own. Does it mean bad bad, or good bad?

I thought I saw pic's of the act in the Mirror. Or was it the Sun? No, it was the Mail!!

I wouldn't support a "straight" only community either... it reeks of segregation. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

I have no idea whether a purpose-built gay village will ever be built but I think it would further marginalise gay people from mainstream society if it ever was, so it would probably not be a good thing. It would de-integrate gay people from non-gay people and "enclaving" could make them so much easier to target for hatred and victimisation. I have never knowingly hoaxed someone but have been hoaxed several times, very cruelly. In the photo above, I see a buff guy in what looks like the throes of the penetrative sex act but without seeing his partner (other than their feet, which look male) I can't guess whether he's anally penetrating another guy, or not.

In many countries, there would be legal problems in enforcing a gay-only accommodation.

It would be quite good to send all obnoxious politians to a steam room for permanent detention!

I can see your logic. It's one reason why I often don't hang out in gay bars. Though they are often very friendly and play good music, I realise it's a place for gay men to hang out.

Do you think a purpose-built gay village will ever be built? Build more separation between people I think not! Have you ever hoaxed someone or been hoaxed? No... What do you see in the photograph above? Seems like two people having sex!

Gay has many meanings; your usage of the word is just as valid as other usages.

..unless there is a very good reason to have a separate gay town....it is just another form of isolationism of a particular group.....maybe the word GAY...should go back to meaning JOY....and let us all get on with our short lives.. and live a more tolerant life.... Blue....
