STARSKY WAS FUCKED BY HUTCH

A recent advert by the UK coach operator National Express features David Soul as a coach driver singing (or rather miming) his 1977 hit song Silver Lady.

Come on Silver Lady take my word
I won't run out on you again believe me
Oh, I've seen the light
It's just one long fight
Without you
Here I am a million miles from home
The Indiana wind and rain cut through me
I'm lost and alone, chilled to the bone
Silver Lady

I love 1970s retro. The advert made me reminisce about the Starsky & Hutch television series.

As many of you will know, Starsky & Hutch was a 1970s American cop television series starring David Soul (as Hutch) and Paul Michael Glaser (as Starsky). Starsky and Hutch’s boss was Captain Dobey and they were helped by their informant, Huggy Bear. There were always lots of car chases; the best chases were with Starsky’s Ford Gran Torino known as the striped tomato.

Starsky and Hutch were very friendly with each other, so friendly that one television narrator referred to Starsky and Hutch as “French-kissing prime-time homos”. Below is an outtake photograph of Hutch being very friendly with Starsky!

Do you enjoy a bit of 1970s retro?
Did you like Starsky & Hutch? If so, what was your favourite character?
What cop/police television series, if any, do you like the best?

My favourite Starsky & Hutch character was Huggy Bear. I also loved Starsky’s car, so much so that I bought a toy version of it.

As well as Starsky & Hutch, my favourite police/cop television series are Kojak, Cagney & Lacey, Midsomer Murders, Ironside, A Touch of Frost, Bergerac and, the best of the lot, Columbo.

I liked "Starsky"!!
How did I know you would like "Columbo"?
I do watch "Unforgetable, Rookie Blue, The BlackList, Blue Blood, but my favorite is "Person of Interest" which they were going to discontinue but are bringing it back next week"!

I watch 70's re-runs often. My favorite cop drama was Police Woman. But, that does not limit the shows I enjoyed. Columbo as also high on my list.
As for Starsky and Hutch, I do love blonds.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

There was some great television (and music) in the 1970s.

I do like some of the better 70s retro, songs moreso than fashion or culture (although music is part of culture, isn't it?)

Starsky and Hutch were ok, my favourite character was Huggy Bear, too... He was a pimp who was same-sex oriented as I recall and one of the first African American people I ever saw on tv. Didn't happen very often, only when I endangered my health by staying late at a friend's place. My "family" didn't get a tv until the series had finished and if I wasn't at home cooking and cleaning for those I lived with, I would get thrashed upon my return.

Cagney and Lacey rocked - Sharon Gless (These days seen in Burn Notice as Michael's mother), John Nettles was excellent in Bergerac and Midsummer Murders and I really like Castle.
Is there a better decade than the 1970s?

Columbo is classic; Peter Falk did it for so long.

The 70s was a great decade, not least we lived it and survived!

The 70s were the most hellish decade of my life to date.
Hopefully, retro 1970s will be better!
