FAT GOOD, NO FAT BAD

Above is Brad Pitt in a scene from the 1999 film, Fight Club. Below is Gareth Thomas, a retired rugby player who announced that he was gay while still playing rugby and still married. What Brad Pitt and Gareth Thomas have in common is their inguinal crease.

Inguinal is the adjective term relating to the groin. People often mistake the inguinal crease for a muscle but it is the twin V-shaped cords of ligament connecting the hips to the waist. The inguinal crease is sometimes called a love line, Marky's mark, Michelangelo muscle, moneymaker and victory-V.

David Beckham, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig, Leonardo DiCaprio, Zac Efron, David Gandy, Hugh Jackman, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mark Wahlberg have all been seen sporting an inguinal crease. Cornel Chin, a personal trainer for many Hollywood actors, believes that an inguinal crease is “the ultimate sign of athleticism, the pinnacle of perfection”.

Because it’s not a muscle, getting an inguinal crease requires people to lose body fat and not build up muscle. The Men’s Health magazine reported that for an optimal inguinal crease, a man needs to get down to between 5 and 8 per cent body fat.

The inguinal crease is increasingly prominent in the media idealisation of the perfect male body. It’s widely accepted that media stereotypes of women’s bodies have adversely affected many women. Now perhaps it’s men’s turn. According to one journalist, the inguinal crease fashion is “the size zero scandal reinvented for men”.

No fat is bad, fat is good. Scientific American explains that “fat is crucial for normal physiology - it helps support the skin and keep it lubricated, cushions feet, sheaths neurons, stores vitamins, and is a building block of hormones.”

Do you have an inguinal crease?
Do you like to see bodies with an inguinal crease?
Are men being subject to increasing media pressure on how their bodies should look?

I’ve never had an inguinal crease. Also, I don’t really like the look of an inguinal crease, but that may be because I have an inguinal turnover!

Are men being subject to increasing media pressure on how their bodies should look? I guess like all things in society there is that quest for the ideal body (what ever that may be).

I have so many creases in my body but not the inguinal crease! I don't really check out the male body......I have no idea what kind of pressure the media puts on the male body, I only know they are wrong about the female body having to be skinny!

i have never personally lay my fingers on it...let's just put that way...but i think it's overate, nowadays...

5% of fat is like essential fat...that's the minimum amount of fat for men...women would need more than that, because you know, we got to have menses and other unpleasant life events...child birth...lol...

average guy would have about 20 % of fat...

i don't mind looking at the beautiful line...but i don't think it is necessary...i would just go for average...

i think, in the end, we are all beautiful in unique way...

I don't have one, my muscle development is female and not as able to be sculpted that way except for the most extreme female body builders.

I have to admit that I love seeing male bodies with the inguinal crease and have been in sexual situations with 8 men in the last 4 years who have it... I love to lick and kiss along it (yes, I'm still referring to the inguinal crease, lol)...

I do think there is a lot of pressure on men, these days to work at keeping their bodies looking sexy and why shouldn't there be..? For decades men have belittled women who let themselves go and not work hard at their appearance. It's not just the media, women want men to make more of an effort to be athletic-looking because it looks healthy and healthy = sexy. Don't shoot the messenger.
I must admit I'm not a big fan of the inguinal creae look but if i was a woman, I may think different. I think the inguinal crease makes the man look like an Action Man doll!

The few of my friends who have an inguinal crease almost force me to check out their crease!

I think we should call all bodily creases inguinal creases now!

Insides are always better than the outsides, though sometimes the outside makes it tempting to go inside!

I think the pressure on men to have the 'perfect' body is definitely increasing.

A couple of my friends are slim and they're forever parading their inguinal crease in front of me.

    Yes!
Now I'm older, I'm more aware of the pressure ... or it may be that my body has deviated from the so-called 'perfect' look!

I didn't say that the two men have lost weight and not built up their muscles. What I said was they both have an inguinal crease which you cannot get my building up muscle.

The way I got rid of a beer belly was to drink wine and have a wine belly instead!
