SPUNK FOR SPIES

I’ve just finished reading a book review of Kristie Macrakis’ Prisoners, Lovers & Spies: The Story of Invisible Ink from Herodotus to al-Qaeda. Nowadays, reading reviews of books is the closest I get to reading books!

During the First World War, Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service (known as MI6) used semen as invisible ink. In 1915, one MI6 official wrote in his diary that MI6’s chief (known as C) was “making enquiries for invisible inks at the London University”.

A few months later, he had “heard from C that the best invisible ink is semen” because it did not react to iodine vapour, then the main method used to detect invisible ink. The then chief of MI6 was Mansfield George-Cumming, I you not.

Using semen as an invisible ink had a further advantage; it was widely and readily available! One MI6 officer used to store his semen in a bottle but his letters “stank to high heaven”. He had to be told to make a fresh supply of semen for each new operation.

Above is MI6’s invisible ink supply factory!

Have you ever used invisible ink (or security ink)?
Have you ever used spunk to write a letter?
Do you regularly read book reviews?

I’ve not used invisible ink, but when at school I did occasionally seal envelopes containing letters to girlfriends with spunk. On the back of the envelope, I would write SWALOS, to stand for Sealed With A Load of Spunk. Unsurprisingly, I didn’t receive any mail back from these letters!

I used invisible ink when I was very young. I have never written with spunk and I prefer to read books rather than reviews....maybe I have more time than you.

No to all. I stopped reading books reviews long ago, when I found that I enjoyed the books that the reviewers hated

There was a "lady" in the gif?

I'm not sure MI6's semen factory is all that efficient - apparently it takes 3 women to make one man cum... and he ends up having to wank himself off!

I have used invisible ink as well as fading ink but I think it might be the same thing.

I have never used spunk to write a letter...

I generally avoid reading book reviews and prefer to make my own judgements.

Methinks that spunk factory in your pic is not having much suckcess bottling the ink.
When I worked in MI6's spunk factory, it was very hard work because of the many spillages. I only lasted a week!

    Yes, NSA application!
Have you ever used spunk to write a letter?
    Not yet!
Do you regularly read book reviews?
Movie reviews I have not reviewed a book in a long time!
I hope the NSA offered you a job for your ingenious application.

I have to read a lot for work which puts me off reading for leisure, except for book reviews in the Sunday newspapers.

Yes, I've used invisible ink. It works best when used to write in the margins of an actual letter, thus not raising suspicion. It wasn't semen, though.

I only read book reviews of books I've written, depressing as that may be.
Book reviewers always get it wrong when we've written the books!

Book reviewers don't always have a good track record. And some reviewers use them to even the scores.

I am a criminal mastermind and I shan't lower myself to answer your silly questions while I have a pussy to stroke and plans for world domination to prepare.

Cummings used to write in green ink and sign with a letter C. All subsequent heads of MI6 have followed suit - or so they tell us...
I hope the pussy is stroked and the world is dominated now!

It's not the most efficient factory but MI6 just can't get the dutiful staff nowadays. Today's workers expect job satisfaction!
