WHO KNOCKED HER UP?

Knocker-upping is now a defunct profession that was widely practiced in many British industrial towns and cities until the 1920s.

A knocker-upper was someone whose job was to get up early and rouse sleeping people so they could get to work on time.

The knocker-up used a short, heavy stick to knock on people’s doors or a long, light stick to knock on people’s upstairs windows. One enterprising knocker-upper, Mary Smith working in London, used to blow dried peas from her peashooter at her ’ windows, for which she was paid sixpence a week.

Knocker-uppers were usually elderly men and women, though some were police constables knocking-up to supplement their wages. Knocker-uppers did not leave their ’ homes until they were sure that their were awake.

Sometimes knocker-uppers’ knocker-uppers were employed; their job was to stay up throughout the night and wake up the knocker-upper in the early morning.

Thanks to the alarm clock, the noble profession of knocker-upping has disappeared.

Have you ever been knocked-up in the morning?
How do you wake up in the morning?
What time do you normally wake up on weekday and weekend mornings?

To get up in the morning, I use an alarm clock, though I often wake up naturally before my alarm clock sounds. For some reason, I never trust the alarm function on my mobile phone (or, rather I don’t trust myself to correctly set the alarm).

In the past, my cat would wake me up ridiculously early to be fed - I could never get mad at the cat for wanting breakfast. Sometimes a partner would wake me up if she was up before me, though I’d always have my alarm set just in case she overslept (or was mad at me!).

I tend to wake up about 7 o’clock in the morning and, after listening to the radio, normally get up at 8 o’clock on both weekdays and weekends.

I am up by 5:45am no matter what day it is. I usually try to have a quiet hour after I send MB to work with coffee.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

If I have to be at my daughter's house then I set the alarm for 6.15.

If not I normally wake between 7.30 and 8 and get up soon after....unless it's Sunday....when I turn over and go back to sleep!

I am up at 4am every day of the week. If I perchance "sleep in" until 5am, my daily routine is all messed up. Usually wake up by myself, but use an alarm as a back up

Well I have taken to just waking when I feel like it. It can be between 7-9. And it takes me a bit to get myself together. But then I do vary my go to sleep time from 10pm to about 2.30am

An orgasm a day , makes you so much happier at work and play

I used to work as a night auditor and one of my duties was the morning wake up call.

"Good morning! This is your wake-up call"

But I would often put a husky note into it for some reason. One morning a gentleman came down for coffee, "Was that you who gave the wake up call?"

After affirming: "That's a great voice to wake up to!"

A friend recently informed me it probably added greatly to the morning excitement lol. TOTALLY ruined 4 years worth of wake-up-call memories haha

That must be annoying; perhaps you should set your alarm 30 minutes after you need to wake up!
Thanks for stopping by.

I used to wake up around that time but I'm now waking up a bit later thankfully.

I've watched a little of the golf, though it clahes with the Tour de France. Pre-tournament favourite here was Justin Rose.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are when I try to sleep longer, but once awake I find it difficult to go back to sleep.

I sometimes set my alarm too early, and then, when it goes off, I think I've got more time to get up but promptly fall asleep to get up late.

You get a wake up call in hotels. I've used that a lot when abroad and adjusting to local times. In Russia they cam and banged on the door until it was answered!
I sat my alarm clock for 5.30 most week days and need to get up promptly or I fall back to sleep.
    Weekends - whenever
The Russian way sounds very effective!

4am is early and 5am is still early. You are the early bird that catches the worm.

I'm often in bed listening to the radio by 10pm - a 11pm bedtime is a late night for me!

I have been knocked-up in the morning by tradesmen... If only they had waited another two hours, been better looking and their purpose had been pleasure and not smashing walls and stuff, I'd have been more receptive.

No two mornings are the same for me... Sometimes I'm woken by alarm (phone) although I own an alarm clock/radio. Sometimes I just wake up because I'm no-longer tired, sometimes it's something on the tv (on overnight) that alerts my subconscious, sometimes a bed partner farts and the smell wakes me.

I sleep random hours, throughout the day, throughout the night, it never seems to make a difference except if I have stuff that I have to do.
I don't think I would like the farting alarm clock!

I hate getting up when I have to get up. The times when I don't have to get up are often the times I get up early!
