MY DOPPELGÄNGER IS DEAD

Rik Mayall, a British comedian, died unexpectedly yesterday. He rose to fame in the 1980s and early 1990s starring in television comedy sitcoms like The Young Ones (as Rick – see photo above), Bottom (as Richie) and Blackadder (as Lord Flashheart). I didn’t like Blackadder.

My favourite Rik Mayall character was the Conservative MP, Alan B’Stard, in The New Statesman television series – see photo below.

In 1998, Rik Mayall was involved in a very serious quad bike accident. His wife saw the accident but, thinking he was only joking, left him lying on the ground for several minutes before calling the ambulance.

Rik Mayall was cast as a poltergeist in the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, but all his scenes were edited out before the film was released in 2001. In his fictionalised autobiography, Bigger Than Hitler, Better Than Christ, Rik Mayall claimed that he didn’t know his role was cut until the film’s premiere. Loser!

Many of my friends said I looked and behaved like Rik Mayall, though I always replied that my doppelgänger was in fact Hugh Grant and, more latterly, George Clooney! In my dreams, my doppelganger would be Audrey Hepburn!

Were you a fan of Rik Mayall?
Who are your favourite comedians?
Who is your doppelgänger?

On hearing about Rik Mayall’s death, his fellow comedian Ade Edmondson said: “There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing.... And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard.”

Rik Mayall was only two years older than me - death is nigh! But my favourite comedian is Joan Rivers who will defy death!

I have a few doppelgangers, but I've never learned their names. lol (Some used to say I looked like Jesus, but who really knows what he looked like?)

George Carlin and Sam Kinnison were among my favorite comedians .

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

I wasn't a fan of Blackadder either.

My favourite comedians....Brendan Carroll (Mrs Brown's Boys), Billy Connolly and Dave Allen.

People dying as young as him make me realise I am well past my sell by date! R.I.P.

Must admit, I did not know of him. My favorite, as silly as it may sound is the Three Stooges, in all of their incarnations. They are just silly.

Gutted that he's gone. A toff with a sense of reality, and a proper funny bloke! I love Kevin Turvey!

1. Big time, funny man, and a nice man too!
2. Very many funny men in the UK and abroad, difficult to answer that. Maybe Chic Murray was my all time funniest comedian.
3. I have been told the same as you, George, Rik, and even Rowan!!

Eddie Murphy is good, and he is definitely not your doppelganger!

George Carlin was seriously funny.
Perhaps it's Jesus that looked like you rather than the other way round!

I paid my respects to Rik in the previous post but he is a huge loss to the world of British comedy although I loved him in his straight role in Jonathan Creek. He was quite talented but I really couldn't stand him in The Young Ones or the Living Doll remake with Cliff Richard. He was interesting in Drop Dead Fred with Phoebe Cates.

I like so many comedians that if I listed them all, I'd forget to mention about half of them...

My likes include Joan Rivers, Rita Rudner, Fiona O'Laughlin, Tim Minchin, Maureen Lipman, Jenny Eclair, Michael Winslow, Frankie Howerd, Judith Lucy and so many others.

    I'm not sure that I have any one doppelganger, comedy-wise, I think I'm very much a one-orf...

    *warmhugsforyourloss*
I liked Frank Howerd too. Tim Minchin is making it big in the UK but I'm not a big fan of his work.

If your doppelganger is Elisabeth Shue, you must be drop-dead gorgeous.

I also thought Rik Mayall was better when he toned it down a little.

I recommend Rik Mayall as Alan B'Stard in The New Statesman, by far his best part.
Michelle Pfeiffer is gorgeous!

Here she is, still very gorgeous.

That's her in the movie... She was about 22 years old at the time.

She also sings a song "Cool Rider" in this movie. I like it.
I've seen Grease 1 but not Grease 2; I'll look out for it now.

Alternatively, dear S, we could watch it together when you visit... I have the double box set of Grease and Grease 2 (see pic).
That sounds like a good plan.
