PRINCE CHARLES, “A COMPLETE IDIOT” SAYS HIS WIFE
PRINCE CHARLES, “A COMPLETE IDIOT” SAYS HIS WIFE Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, have just returned from a controversial trip to Canada. The trip will be remembered for Prince Charles’ remarks comparing the Russian President Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler. Last week, while visiting a museum in Halifax, Prince Charles likened Putin to Hitler during a conversation with a museum volunteer, Marienne Ferguson. She said they had been discussing Hitler’s occupation of countries when Prince Charles remarked “something to the effect of ‘it's not unlike ... what Putin is doing’”. The British Prime Minister David Cameron, the Foreign Office and Prince Charles’ Clarence House all refused to comment on what they said was “a private conversation”. However, reaction from Russia was more forthcoming and, to be honest, very measured. A Kremlin spokesman condemned Prince Charles’s words as “unacceptable, outrageous, dishonourable” and said that his comparison was based on “historical ignorance”. In the Second World War, 28 million Soviets died fighting the Nazis – just over 400,000 Americans and 450,000 British died. Winston Churchill acknowledged that it was the Russian army who did “the main work in tearing the guts out of the German army”. The Kremlin and Russian television reminded the world of the links between the Royal Family and Adolf Hitler – the Duke of Windsor visited Hitler’s Obersalzberg retreat in 1937 soon after abdicating as king; King George VI sent Hitler a birthday greeting several weeks before Germany invaded Poland; the Nazis planned to install the Duke of Windsor as King when Germany was to invade Britain, and Prince Harry donned a Nazi uniform at a fancy dress party in 2005. As one Russian television journalist put it, “If anyone knows real Nazis, it's the Royal Family”. The future King’s contribution to Western diplomatic efforts to persuade Russia to defuse things in Ukraine is quite remarkable! Though Russia has recently annexed Crimea, as far as I'm aware, Putin has made no plans for a 'final solution'. I'm no fan of Putin but Prince Charles' remarks are just ridiculous. Prince Charles and the Russian president are both due to attend a D-Day anniversary event in France next month. That should be an interesting encounter! Just before Prince Charles needlessly married Diana Spencer in 1981, he was asked in a television interview if they were in love. Prince Charles replied, “Of course … whatever in love means”. What a charmer! Soon after the wedding, Prince Charles continued to see his long-time lover, Camilla Parker Bowles, now his wife. They had both met at a polo match and, it is claimed, she went up to Prince Charles at a nightclub and said, “My great-grandmother was your great-great grandfather's mistress, so how about it?” Revealing an enlightened attitude towards tampons, below is an intercepted television conversation between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, which was dubbed Camillagate: Charles: “I want to feel my way along you, all over you and up and down you and in and out. Oh God, I'll just live inside your trousers or something - it would be much easier.” Camilla: “What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers? You're going to come back as a pair of knickers.” Charles: “Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck!” Camilla: “You are a complete idiot! What a wonderful idea.” Do you think private conversations involving people in the public domain should remain private? What’s your opinion, if any, on Prince Charles? Have you ever regretted saying something to a lover? |

I have never said anything bad to a wife. Charles made big news when he was here! I would rather see William next in line!

Private conversations stay private only as long as one of the individuals involved doesn't make it public. As far as the Putin / Hitler thing. Hitler had some insane ideas, came to power through democratic means, stayed in power by suspect means, and removed the opposition, then tried to build an empire by annexation (Austria) and force to return Germany to his perception of the country's past glory. Putin came to power by democratic, has remained in power by suspect means, has some insane ideas (stance on homosexuality); has been accused of heavy handed tactics when dealing with opposition; has annexed Crimea (empire building?). If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, chances are it's a duck! Find pleasure in giving pleasure

The private conversations of a public person should remain private however any public person should have enough savvy to know that anything they say will become public in the end. Prince Charles doesn't seem to have learned this. He's a bit of an idiot. Of course I have said things to a lover which I regret....and therefore I'm not repeating any of them here. ~~Anais Nin~~

1. Nope, tough titty say I, if you're prepared to reap the benefits of a high public profile, you should also be prepared to suffer the downside of it too. 2. Views about the parasitical and out dated concept of a monarchic society aside, nincompoop is the word that always springs to mind when I see him. 3. Many times!

Not a fan of Charles. I guess if he is going to be in the public eye/ear, he should choose his words...wisely?

Private conversations, even between public figures, should (I think) remain private unless a threat to national security. I admire that Charles speaks his mind, for what little there seems to be of it. He's inherited his father's "gift of the gaffe" or "foot in mouth disease". Not directly to a lover but last year when I was close to an emotional breakdown in my relationship, I found myself in a text conversation with an ex-"playmate" where I referred to my then boyfriend as 'a gimp' (oh dear!) At the time, I was having problems with my phone and while I was asleep the next morning, my boyfriend (who was at my home) sent me a text to check my phone and noticed this very recent other thread of texts and what I had said about him. Later, during a search online to see if I had any new mails, I noticed one from someone who had wasted my time a few months before I met my boyfriend and said "Ugh, what the fuck does this gimp want?". My boyfriend asked me what I meant when I referred to someone as a gimp and I told him that "It's what I call irritating people who just don't get it." All hell didn't break loose, he just sat there looking deeply hurt. I felt disgusting. He's the best ex that I've ever had.

I agree with you about public figures being allowed to have a private life. Given Prince Charles' conversation took place while he was on royal duty, I think his conversation was not private. You're right, he is a knob!

I believe that we would be much more reasonable as a country if we were to remove our Royal family entirely. I would support the use of force if a non-forceful mechanism could not be found. However... Nazi Germany took control of the Sudetenland - A largely German speaking region of fairly newly formed Czechoslovakia which wished to be re-united with Germany. Russia has taken control of Crimea - A largely Russian speaking region of an unstable and non-historic Ukraine which wished to be re-united with Russia. IN WHAT WAY IS PRINCE CHARLES WRONG? Just because I don't agree with his privileged position doesn't mean the man is misinformed. Anyone in the position of Prince Charles and especially with his upbringing should not be making statements they are not willing to defend in public. He is already afforded far to much privacy. He is not entitled to private conversations while attending to Royal / UK business. I've regretted saying lots of things to lots of people but I can't think of anything I've regretted saying to a lover. Germany was aggressively expanding; Russia is defensively annexed Crimea. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia has lost its superpower status and seen the West, in the form of the EU and NATO, reach its borders. The West has miscalulated Russia's motives ever since the collapse of communism there. Imagine how the US would react if a neighbouring country threatened its interests. Fortunately, we don't have to imagine as there was Cuba, Chile, Nicaragua and Grenada.

Like you, I think Prince Charles should have realised that his conversation, while on royal duty, was not really private.

Just think of the gaffes and rows when he becomes king! Most people in the UK would prefer the throne to skip to Prince William when the Queen dies.
