DO IT YOURSELF

Around home, I’m not a very handy person. I’ve never done much DIY. I once made a garden shed but I made a mess of it.

Decorating, plumbing, building, plastering, shelving, painting, grouting, repairing things, drilling, mixing concrete, welding, sawing, tiling, maintaining cars, wallpapering, putting up a light fitting, paving, fixing computers, carpeting, landscaping, wiring, bleeding radiators, soldering, mending gadgets, sewing, and unblocking drains – these are all the things that other people do.

I can change a lightbulb and hang a picture on the wall; I’ve even been known to weed a garden, mow a lawn and top up a car with oil.

I’m not very practical around home partly because other people have often done these things and partly because I prefer to plan and supervise than do these things. I think supervision is an under-rated DIY activity; I call it project management.

Also, I'm worried in case I injure myself while doing these sorts of things, especially if a drill is involved. Drills are vicious!

How handy are you?
On the DIY front, what things are you good at doing?
Do you own and use a drill?

I am fairly handy with wood working. I have built a couple garages, decks/porches on homes and love cabinet building. I do own some tools. I have recently started to experiment making paddles,no I just need some ladies to "fit" them for

I can fix or build anything as long as I have my trusty duct tape and 6 in nails!!

I am actually a little serious about that. No craftsman would approve but... I am actually pretty damn good at decorating and can spackle with fine skills

An orgasm a day , makes you so much happier at work and play

I am fairly handy. I can tile a bathroom, paint, put furniture together with instructions. I would rather have help but if I need to, I can do it.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

1. Fairly handy, though I find plumbing intimidating for some reason.
2. Painting and decorating.
3. Of course! One of those cordless geared drill/screw driver thingy doofs. It's the business!

I can do minor things. Any major jobs I'd rather leave to the professionals. I can paint but hate doing it.I have a "large" assortment of tools both manual and powered....corded and cordless!

I can fix a few things but nothing major. I suck at being handy. I get hubby to most things I can't do. I got all kinds of tools.. hugs V

I would very much rather not have seen that last image!!!

I'm pretty okay with some stuff....I can paint and wallpaper, know the difference between a weed and a flower, know what liquids go in which part of the car, can change plugs and fuses and put together self assembly furniture....however I have no objection to supervising if someone else offers to do it for me!!!

I somewhat handy... the younger brother is always forced labour for a handy father. I have a few obscure old skills up my sleeve.

    I'm surprisingly handy...

I can build a house frame but not the foundations, I can do cabinetry, painting, change blades on lawnmowers as well as replace ripcords and clean out clogged carburettors, I know how to wire a plug, change or install door locks, hang doors, tiling and grouting, I can change washers in taps (after turning the water off), change taps (called faucets in the US and Canada), replace worn cistern parts, hook up audiovisual equipment (technical configurations), hang pictures, install tongue and groove flooring, replace window panes... That's about it, really

I used to own a power drill that was bought as a birthday present by my "mother" but it came with conditions that I always made myself available to do work for her at any time. When I walked out of her home for the last time, I left it there along with a circular saw I owned that I bought for myself many years earlier. Just because I am competent to do these things, doesn't mean I appreciate being pressured into doing them by her. He has a son and I'm not it. Haha, he's fucking useless.
You are incredibly handy.

I always need help because I'm not confident that I can do DIY things very well.

I'd love to have a rummage in your toolbox to see what you've got!
I have a toolbox because my Dad bought me one with lots of tools but it's rarely opened.

I don't do much decorating, but I do do most of the 'flat-pack' assembly; usually I have a couple of screws left over, so I have a screw in the evening and another first thing in the morning...
It seems buying flat-pack furniture is a great way of getting a screw!

WTF is that guy doing with the oxy-acetylene torch?

I'm handy. I'm civil / structural engineer. I tell people what to do for a living. At home, I'm my own labour force.
Woodwork best. Any large job, I find intimidating.
Yes. I've owned several but I'm currently down to just one power drill and two hand drills.
I think the photo with the man with the oxy-acetylene torch is fake or, at least, I hope it is!

Supervising is always much better than doing!
I think, or hope, the last image is a fake one.

A by-product of being born into an impoverished family that couldn't afford repairmen and tradespersons... Learnt by trial and error and borrowing books on DIY from the library.

There's still lots of stuff that I'm hopeless at...
My parents did everything handy-wise for me, which I suspect is one reason why I don't do it.
