ANYONE FOR A SANDWICH?
ANYONE FOR A SANDWICH? Above are three people enjoying a sex sandwich. Though sandwiches have been eaten for many centuries, the first written usage of the term sandwich can be traced to Edward Gibbon, the English historian, in 1762. It is widely claimed that the sandwich was named after the English aristocrat, John Montagu, who was the 4th Earl of Sandwich and often ordered his valet to bring him bread and meat to eat while he continued to work at his desk or to play cards with his guests. The British Sandwich Association – yes, such an organisation exists – organises the annual Sammies Awards. The British love their sandwiches. The British Sandwich Association estimated that nearly 11 billion sandwiches are eaten every year in the UK – that’s nearly 175 sandwiches per person each year. Nearly 1.7 billion sandwiches are sold ‘on the go’ from shops, with over 30 per cent of the sandwiches sold being filled with chicken. The ‘on the go’ sandwich market is worth £2.8 billion in Britain. In May 1997, The Wall Street Journal claimed that the sandwich as Britain’s “biggest contribution to gastronomy”, that “barely edible sandwiches dominate the landscape” in Britain, and that its sandwich fillings are “so similar in taste that they were barely distinguishable to an American palate”. In defence of the British sandwich, the food critic Egon Ronay said the newspaper’s claims are “ridiculous", especially “coming from the home of junk food”. It seems that Americans don’t like British sandwiches – only the UK sandwich shop chain Prêt à Manger has managed to penetrate the American sandwich market, but it had to change how its sandwiches were made for the Americans to buy and eat them. Have you been involved in a sex sandwich? How regularly do you eat sandwiches? What are your favourite sandwich fillings? I have a sandwich lunch most days. My favourite fillings are salmon and cucumber, ham and mustard, beef and horseradish, cheese and onion, and cheese and tomato – all with the crusts on the bread. The strangest sandwich I’ve had was a sugar sandwich! |

I have not partaken in a sex sandwich. With all the talk of sandwiches and with lunch time approaching, I'm feeling like a BLT will hit the spot. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

Yes I've been involved in a sex sandwich. I have a sandwich most days for my lunch....my favourite is cold roast beef....which has NOT been in the fridge with a garlic and herb mayo that I make myself on very soft while bread. The crusts have to be left on or everything falls to bits if the bread is that fresh!!! ~~Anais Nin~~

When I was a kid, I took my lunch to school (even though I lived less than a block away). I loved cucumber sandwiches, but have never considered adding them to anything else - like salmon. Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

Dear S, I'm absolutely delighted that you revived this post. With much regret, due to anatomical limitations, I have not taken part in a sex sandwich but if that could be resolved, I'd love to if I could also find the right two men. I don't eat sandwiches very often as I enjoy brioche as bread instead of uniformly sliced, sandwich-style bread but when I do have sandwiches, it's almost always on wholemeal bread. My favourite sandwich fillings are tuna and cheese, tuna and salad, honey and banana, Vegemite alone, honey alone, cheese alone, chicken with salad, chicken and cheese, corned beef and cheese, roast beef and cheese, ham and cheese, turkey and cheese as well as mashed potato and any meat in this list. The weirdest sandwich I have had was an icecream sandwich... I got internal frostbite trying to eat it quickly enough to prevent a melted icecream mess.

Yes, I've been involved in numerous sex sandwiches of different combinations. I have food sandwiches often. Oh, I've worked in a few deli's and used to have people line up to have me make them a sandwich. So, I have a huge list of ingredients I like but my best is probably the "Atlantic City hoagie." It's a soft Italian roll, three kinds of cold cuts, American cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, mayonnaise, olive oil, salt, pepper and hot peppers. Then there's the cheese-steak sub...

I've never had Ginger as a sandwich filling!

Generally, UK sandwiches are drier and less saucier than American sandwiches. Also American sandwiches tend to get made with all sorts of combinations.

Banana sandwiches are good. I find peanut butter sandwiches too dry and filling.

Bacon sandwiches are heaven. I like my bacon crispy and streaky.
