YOUR LOUNGE

Above is a photo of a lounge in 1950s’ Britain, maybe more like a dentist’s waiting room for a mother, with twins, knitting and waiting for her husband. But this was the post-war rationing Britain!

I love visiting other people’s homes just to see their lounge. It’s often the room designed for the host’s comfort – television, music and lounging – plus the room to greet guests. I love looking at people’s lounges for what it says about them and what it says about how they see others – their music, their books and, most interesting, their little things left around. It’s the room that seems to most define people, how they see themselves and how they would like other people to see themselves. A lounge, I think, is the room that says most about someone.

In my home, I have spent most effort on my lounge. The apartment I live in was part of a lace factory, Nottingham’s most famous export. My lounge’s ceiling is over 20 foot high, it has an arched-window where the lace would be transported out, and one of its walls is brick with the other walls painted a deep red. But my favourite item in my lounge is the sofa. Comfortable!

What is your lounge like?
And what do you do in your lounge?
What’s your favourite bit of your lounge?
What room do you most like to nose around at other people’s homes?

My favourite place to visit is a living room. I can remember back when I use to see that style of furniture was very popular and that colour too. I think people like to look into people's bedrooms see what they have out. Have a great week! hugs V

My lounge is small, very cosy, has a real fire in it, a recliner sofa and armchair....TV (rarely used) and the laptop (often used) lol. A full bookcase and not much else really.

I like to nose around people's kitchens....to see if they like food!

Other people's bedrooms are interesting to look at as well, but I've got to get there first!

My man cave is my study upstairs, but it does overlook the lounge.

I'll post a picture of my lounge when I acquire a digital camera so you can see it. But it may be quicker to come and visit me!

Because my finances are very limited, my loungeroom is not very indicative of my true nature or my tastes... It's organised chaos, as much of my home is but kept clean and the arrangement is practical and Fung Shui compliant.
The entry into the room in both directions (one towards the kitchen, dining area and front door and the other off to the side to the bathroom, study and boudoir)...
Directly opposite the sofa, about 8ft away, is the big screen tv and audiovisual unit (a large cabinet with storage plus audio amplifier, turntable and stereo speakers). There are a few photos up there too, to the right of it, there's a tall, slim bookcase and to the left a CD/DVD tower and between that and the sofa (a plush 3-seater which is beige with recliners at either end, is another storage piece that contains my record collection and in the sections on either side is books and extra DVDs and video tapes... Behind the sofa is storage in chaos. I often sleep in my loungeroom.
I sometimes like to "entertain" my guests on the sofa, I often eat my meals in front of the tv (sorry, just repeating myself, lol).
My favourite bit of my lounge would be my sofa but it's worn out and needs replacing and I love my CD/DVD tower.
I'm not keen on nosing around other people's homes but when I was pre-school age, I would often explore the kitchen cabinets of neighbours and my "mother's" friends as I was left out of the conversation. It was often mistakenly believed that I was looking for food treats but I was curious to know what they ate.
Organised chaos is cool; that's like my study at home and my office at work. I also often fall asleep on my sofa; it's more comfortable than the bed.
What does Fung Shui involve in designing a room layout?

Fung Shui is the ancient oriental art of geomancy. It arranges ones home into 9 designated sections that each pertain to an area of people's lives. There are sectors for career, family, luck, relationships, health, creativity, helpful people and dreams and aspirations... It's a lot of fun if not taken too seriously but can bring peace to an area of a person's life by introducing 'qi', calming/soothing energy or ramp-up the energy flow with 'sha' energy. This is done with the overall combination of shapes and colours and arrangement so that the foot of the bed should not face the door (the coffin position), backs should not face the door in rooms as it creates nervous energy, not good for emotional harmony and toilet lids should be kept down lest ones finances seep down the 's'-bend. There is a lot involved in it but I've been practising it now for nearly 25years and feel more relaxed and in tune with the energies of the universe. I know, I sound like a total crackpot... Lol
Thanks for your explanation of Fung Shui. I've never understood it, but thanks to your explanation, I do now. Many thanks.
My toilet seat is often up!

I am a silly man. I thought you meant the toys you sometimes blog about. I was beginning to think that your sex toy collection must be museum-size if they're all over your house!
