HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY (ESPECIALLY TO GWYNETH PALTROW)  Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers in blogland! It's Mother's Day here in Britain. My Mum died a few years ago so I can only send her these virtual flowers, though I don’t think she’d have approved of my activities on this site! But she did love lilies. I feel special thoughts should go to the beleaguered mother of two, Gwyneth Paltrow. Recently, she claimed that her life as a Hollywood actress was “much harder” than that of working mothers who have a routine office job and, in her words, “you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening” to presumably do nothing! She also said: “I feel like I set it up in a way that makes it difficult because ... for me, like if I miss a school run, they are like, ‘Where were you?’. When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks’, and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.” Before mothers rush to protest at her words, sympathy should be shown to the much criticised mother. On 25 March, Gwyneth Paltrow announced, on her lifestyle Goop website, that she has undergone a “conscious uncoupling” from Coldplay’s Chris Martin. But after a few days, she bravely picked herself up from this split and is reported to be “ready to have another boyfriend”. I bet most mothers cannot go from cold play to hot play in less than a week. Most mothers are not forced to put up with the constant demands of nannies, personal assistants and stylists; they are not forced to accept the People magazine’s ‘Most Beautiful Woman’ award; they are not forced to accept free supplies of Estée Lauder perfume; they are not forced to accept an estimated annual income of £6 million; they are not forced to write the book My Father's : Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness; and they are not forced to tearfully accept an Oscar award for a role in the Shakespeare in Love film. On Mother's Day....I do what I do every Sunday....stay in bed late, have a cooked breakfast and then dinner with the family later. Maybe Gwyneth Paltrow will be treated like a real mother on Mother's day.....that might wake her up!!!  ~~Anais Nin~~

Poor Gwen...She does seem to be a bit full of herself...I wonder how her children feel about her? Because bottom line, what I feel about her really doesn't matter. We have another five weeks to Mother's Day...currently my children would say I am being a bit harsh but they still love me.

Our Mother's Day is May 11th. I do feel that they should have more than one special day, like maybe one day per month! I don't think Gwyneth deserves any more than any other mother! I lost my Mom March 21st, 2009!

Not being a mother and having had something that only very loosely approximated the description other than the biological process I tend to ignore the event. I do not care for Gwyneth P at all but wish all my friends on Affairlook who are mothers the loveliest Mother's Day *verywarmhugs2Uall*

Like you, it's a bitter-sweet day for me as I lost my Mum a few years back. But the day does make me think of very fond memories of her.

The death of someone's mother often leaves a big hole in that peron's life. I've never really got over my Mum's death a few years back.

Ok. Gwyn P said some incredibly stupid things. She may even be sufficiently in touch with reality to realise and cringe when she's reminded of them! I hope so. Ultimately, the role of an actor is to pretend convincingly. While that doesn't preclude intelligence or thoughtfulness, it doesn't require them either. It is only the cult of celebrity which gives her words extra weight. I hope people don't take those comments too seriously and I hope, for her, that her other utterances are more considered.
