INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2014  Today is International Women’s Day. Though the lot of women compared to men has generally improved over time in many countries, women still earn less than men, are under-represented in elite positions, do proportionately far more housework, are less educated and undertake most care. But women generally live longer than men and can have babies. If a woman, would you like to be man for a day? And if a man, would you like to be a woman for a day? If so, what would you do as a man or a woman for a day? Who do you think has most advanced the position of women in society? I think Germaine Greer, an Australian feminist, has done most to advance the lot of women. Her most famous work, translated into 11 languages, is her 1970 bestseller book The Female Eunuch. Greer believed that men subconsciously hate women and that women have been ‘castrated’ to serve the needs of men. She argued that women should strive for women’s liberation rather than equality with men. Greer urged women to positively embrace gender differences and to determine their own lives. She argued that women who strive to be equal to men will only live like “unfree men”. Below is a photo of Germaine Greer that appeared in the May 1971 issue of the underground Suck magazine. All the writers had agreed to contribute naked photos for the magazine, but only Germaine Greer submitted a photo for publication!  |

I'm not sure if I'd be bothered being a man for a day. I know which side my bread is buttered on. In saying that I know I am blessed to have been brought up by parents who insisted that I received as good an education as the boys. I was also lucky enough to work in a society where I could reach the top of my career without difficulty. Germaine Greer...a good choice.  ~~Anais Nin~~

As a man, I can assure that it's very liberating being able to do one thing at a time because no one expects too much from me. And I can just turn down all other requests to do any more tasks. I love your Miss Piggy choice!

One day would not be enough to fully experience being a man. When I saw that photo, I too doubted it was Germaine Greer. But I've checked several sources (and not Wikipedia) and I'm confident that it is Germaine Greer!
