WE'RE ALL PERVERTS!
WE'RE ALL PERVERTS! Dr Jesse Bering, a prominent and controversial psychologist, has recently written a book called PERV: The Sexual Deviant in All of Us. One reviewer wrote: “At one point I was moved to scribble in block capitals at the bottom of the page ‘DO NOT READ WHILE EATING’, as his description of a particularly icky fetish had really put me off my boeuf bourguignon”. Jesse Bering’s argument is simple. First, he argues that research shows that people's sexuality is fixed in early development, whether by genetic and/or social forces. Second, he argues that so-called sexual perversions should be viewed objectively as just statistically more-or-less common sexual preferences. Third, he argues that people do not consciously make moral or immoral choices about their sexuality; they make amoral choices as people are wired-up to pursue the sex they want. Fourth, he argues that anything goes if there is informed consent. Fifth, normal sex is just what most people do at a given time in a given place, so there is no such fixed thing as normal sex; we’re all perverts! Above is a photograph of two perverts having sex in the missionary position. As a gay man, Bering notes: "If the supermodel Kate Upton were to walk into my office right now and tie me to my chair before doing a slow striptease and depositing her vagina in my face. I think I'd require therapy for years." Bering cites one psychiatrist who thinks there is a category of people, termed ‘normophiles’, who have an excessive desire to have sex with other consenting adults in socially approved ways. Do you like boeuf bourguignon? Are you a normophile? Assuming informed consent, are there any sexual practices that you disapprove of? A while ago, I blogged about Jesse Bering's views of penises and testicles – see BERING IS NOT STRAIT. |

I must be an extreme pessimist , I have talked to psychologists and psychiatrists in a professional capacity many times over the years. They were able to spout some very "learned" sounding opinions about the subject we were discussing. But when as an experienced interviewer / interrogator I pressed them for more details and their experiences, it became readily apparent that their "expertise" was learned from books and professors. So I seldom pay much credence to their studies. Just one mans opinion

No. Excessive? Consent is a tricky subject - even when qualified with "informed". I have seen levels of coercion that I do not like and I have no doubt vulnerable people are preyed upon ("I don't want to but my master said I had to" and all that kind of bollocks). However, I suspect that there is such a thing as "normal" sex - defined by the stuff that most people do. So if you do stuff that most people don't then you are unusual. Not necessarily bad, or adventurous, or liberated... just different

I agree we are all pervs therefore we are all normal... I am totally turned off by scat and golden showers. But sex is like food. I hate onions, you may like them. I get extremely turned on by quiet domination. It is instinctive in me. I had a guy...wait, I will just go blog this memory...

Quotes: ‘normophiles’, who have an excessive desire to have sex with other consenting adults in socially approved ways. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New one. Me thinks there are more of those "normophiles" than any other classification. Consensual sex between adults is normal, no matter how "kinky" or "pervy" they go. Kinky and pervy are in the eye/mind of the beholder.

Beef bourguignon is a French casserole dish that involves cooking beef slowly with (usually Burgundy) wine, herbs and bacon. It's delicious!

I've never had boeuf bourgiugnon... I'm not a normophile, I can be quite surprising but not due to my "official" 'T' status. Scat, pudding, filth etc... Or deliberate pain "games". I'm ok with some bloodletting in the right circumstances.
