ART IS A PIECE OF PISS

Above is a painting by Gavin Turk titled Soft Cosmic Piss Painting.

Painted in 2008, the London-based artist crafted this piece of art with oxidised urine on a copper-prepared canvas. Yes, he produced this work made by pissing on a canvas. One art gallery’s catalogue described the abstract artist as taking “a Gestalt approach to cliché and iconic imagery subverting our sense of what we think we are seeing”. Art can be a piece of piss!

At school, I was not very good at art, not helped by the art teacher never putting one of my artistic efforts on the classroom wall. After a few years of school art classes, I ditched art for technical drawing, which I enjoyed as it mainly involved drawing straight lines with a ruler!

Since leaving school, and after seeing Mark Rothko’s artwork at London’s Tate, I decided I could paint. After buying the materials, I produced two paintings, one of which I even had framed though it’s now well hidden in my storage cupboard.

If you were given Gavin Turk’s Soft Cosmic Piss Painting, what would you do with it?
Did any of your school artwork get hung on the classroom wall?
Since leaving school, have you produced any artwork?

1. I would oblige the idiot who wrote 'a Gestalt approach to cliché and iconic imagery subverting our sense of what we think we are seeing' to pay an inordinate sum of money for it, perhaps his previous year's salary?
2. Nope, I was crap at art.
3. A lot of piss artistry, yes!

I WOULD HANG IT ABOVE THE TOILET...WHERE ELSE WOULD IT GO? lol
I HAVE AN ARTISTIC STREAK BUT AS I HAVE AGED, I ENJOY THE STABILITY OF NUMBERS RATHER THAN THE UNPREDICTABLITY OF CREATIVITY. THAT IS NOT TO SAY I DON'T CREATE, I JUST DO IT USING HOUSEHOLD GOODS, SUCH AS, CLOCKS. I HAVE "WALL o'CLOCKS" IN MY KITCHEN. I THINK I HAVE 40 CLOCKS ON THAT WALL NOW.
The pic was taken in April...I have added many clocks to the wall since.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

I'd give it away again....it's rubbish.

Never had anything hung on the classroom wall....I can't draw at all.

No...nothing at all!!

I think I would sell the artwork; I'm sure some fool would buy it!

The toilet would be a very suitable place to hang the painting. People could also re-paint it when they're visiting the toilet!

If piss painting is art, then, finger painting is fine art!

    I'd burn it.

I'm sure on rare occasions it might have been but can't recall.

I have but not for about 20years, apart from architectural blueprint drafts, which I really enjoy and since my recent cataract surgery, I can do again
You could sell the artwork to make some money!
Drawing architectural blueprint drafts sounds technical.

Your son sounds a very promising artist!
That's a good question whether it smells or not. I guess if it did smell, it would enhance the authenticity of the work.
