AFF CAN’T DO MATHS
AFF CAN’T DO MATHS As some of you know, I was offline for a month with broadband problems. Before I went offline, my last blog post was posted on 6 January. My first blog post, after coming back online, was posted on 7 February. When I came back online, I had 19 comments received over the last 30 days, which covered the period when I was offline. Today, I have 24 comments received over the last 30 days, which covers the period when I’ve been online. In the last 30 days when I've been online, I have posted 13 posts (excluding this one) which have attracted 109 comments (excluding my replies). I can’t understand how Affairlook calculate comments received over the last 30 days. I sometimes wonder whether some members’ comments don’t count as they are the underclass on the site. Does anyone know how comments received are calculated by Affairlook? Is there an invisible underclass on this site? Do you say maths or math? |

I have no idea, and I've given up thinking about it. My "score" goes up when I think it should go down, goes down when I think it should stay up. I've heard people say that it depends on "individual" comments - so only one per person counts over the 30 days. That would mean 46 different people have commented on my blog, which I do not think is the case. But if that is the case then it's not a really good indicator of "popularity" - what's wrong with having a small group of followers who are consistently entertained as against the sudden influx of comments when you show your twat? I would say that it doesn't matter to me in the slightest, because I'm not interested in the site's view of "popularity", I'm not interested in positions in lists. Popularity is no guarantee of quality and I do not find the blogs that I enjoy on the list of most popular bloggers. However, I would like to know how it's supposed to work, because, as you say, most of the time it doesn't seem quite right... But then there's lots of things that don't work - I asked Support why not all of the latest UK posts show up on the "global" latest posts list. Support said that they do, despite my screen shots showing that they do not. Maths - short for mathematics

I don't claim to know the code that operates the a.f.f algorithms, but here is what I do know. 1. I believe it counts up unique commenters, so that if I comment on three separate posts it only counts as one unique comment within the 30 period. 2. Unquestionably, in fact most of us are so low that we are even further down the pecking order in terms of our a.f.f host's list of priorities than the sycophants.......... 3. Do you say Mathematics or Mathematic? Ya gotta lurv it though, people pay for this dross!!

The only big thing they have changed is the amount of comments are calculated only for a 30 days period. Before it was for the entire blog. Scores go up and down and I really not even looking at them anymore. Math is what I say hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

Noticing your environment and wanting to understand how things work is hardly an "unhealthy attitude". Maybe it's a man-thing, seeing a stat and wondering how it's calculated... But if we can figure this out we could sell our findings to the frustrated middle-aged women who desperately want to be TOP BLOGGER!

The numbers have never added up on this site but it can still be amusing.

The way the site calculates the numbers is a mystery even to them... Lol There is definitely an invisible underclass on this site, they are any and all non-paying members... Paying members can freely hurl abuse at us and when we report it to the abuse team, no action is taken... If we retaliate in kind, our profile is very likely deactivated. Depends, I say "maths" for multiple mathematical sciences but "math" when I'm referring to a singular calculation...

It seems they count the number of different members commenting on blog posts over the last month, regardless of how many comments one member posts.

I'm only curious. I have no unhealthy interest in the ratings to be top blogger. If so, I would be a female American blogger asking if anyone wants to fuck me!

It seems it's the number of different members posting comments, not number of different comments, on a blog.
