THE WINTER OLYMPICS AND PUTIN’S IRONY  The Winter Olympics being held in Sochi, Russia are the most expensive Olympics ever staged, and that includes both Summer and Winter Olympic games. The Olympic Games have always been held to project the host city/country onto the world, and Russia’s games are certainly no different. Russia is being widely criticised for recent legislation attacking homosexuality; there has been a spate of gay-bashing in Russia. On homosexuality, Sochi’s mayor Anatoly Pakhomov claims Sochi has no gay people: “We just say that it is your business, it’s your life. But it’s not accepted here in the Caucasus where we live. We do not have them in our city.” The Russian President Vladimir Putin, trying to calm international concerns about gays being made welcome at the Winter Olympics, said: “One can feel calm and at ease.... Just leave the alone.” Likewise, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Kozak warned, “They [Gays] can make propaganda about their sexual orientation among adults. But there is no need to involve .” Above is a photograph of Russia’s notorious riot police, OMON, deployed to police the Winter Olympics. When the Cyrillic script is read backwards or seen in a mirror, Putin’s irony is clear! Are you watching the Winter Olympics? If so, what games will you be watching? I’ll be watching men’s ice hockey and I hope Canada meet Russia in the final for Canada to whip the Russia's arses. The irony! |

I was watching the down hill skiing last night. This is on TV so late for us because of the time change. Most of the current stuff is on at 1 am in the morning but we can always caught the reruns. I am waiting for the curling and hockey. Canada ladies hockey has a good game yesterday hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

RasPutin and his pals are mental, did you hear Nicky Campbell's interviews with Sochi's mayor on the radio? Absolutely knock out mate, ye'll love it! 1. Oh yes, I love most sport. Though I don't think competitions which are based on subjective judging should qualify for the lympics, only objective competition should. Otherwise, lets' include Strictly Come Dancing, which is one of the best ever! (Imagine the gold medal for anything being decided on a public vote and dance off!!  )2. I'm a curler, to quite a good national standard, love it. Love the skiing and the triathlon stuff, and the bobsleigh things. Short course speed skating is brilliant too, as is long course. Goodness, I'll never be able to do any work! Just like the London lympics!!

I am watching as much as I can...I like watching Olympics..summer or winter. My TV is on 24/7 while the games are on..Canada has 1 Gold, 2 silver, and a bronze so far! GO CANADA GO!!!!

..they spent 51 billion dollars on the Olympics....why do they need facilities that cost this much...all the vents are suppose to be outside..so let then be played outside... maybe there is a reason the Greeks stopped the original Olympics... ...and Spunk....I want to only see the Canadians and the US teams in the hockey final... Blue

A few years ago an Australian speed skater won gold because all the other skaters crashed in both the semi-final and final. That was funny!

Nope, not watching it because of the despicably ignorant attitudes of that country... Why these people draw any parallels between homosexuality and paedophilia or the ability of people of any "sexual orientation" to pervert the sexuality of anyone just disgusts me and in my opinion, by watching this winter Olympics, people are tacitly supporting these ignorant attitudes and allowing bigots to gain financial benefit. A few months ago, I read a news story that patrons at a restaurant in Italy refused to "tip" a waiter who had given excellent service because of his sexuality, citing that Gays should not share in the wealth of God (and apparently the wealth of religious bigots)... My feeling is that lowlifes who demonise an entire sexuality should not have any financial gain from those who support sexual orientations that do no harm. Gay people have historically and continue to make some phenomenal contributions to this world... It's time for homophobes to "Grow-the-fuck-up!" Stepping down from my soapbox now...
