LOUIS VUITTON

Above are two adverts for Louis Vuitton. The first advert Vuitton that was banned by the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK; the second advert featuring Madonna wasn't banned.

Why was the first advert banned in the UK?
A prize will be awarded to the first correct answer posted. No cheating! ?*

Louis Vuitton, often shortened to LV, is a French fashion house founded in 1854. LV designs and sells a wide range of luxury fashion products, including handbags, jewellery, shoes, sunglasses and watches. LV also sponsors the Louis Vuitton Cup, the preliminary yachting competition to determine the challenger to race the holder of the prestigious America’s Cup. It is part of the wider group, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, which also owns the Moët et Champagne and Hennessy Cognac brands.

Since 2006, Louis Vuitton has been named the world's most valuable luxury brand. LV is one of the most counterfeited fashion brands in the fashion world; in 2004, LV fakes accounted for nearly 20 per cent of counterfeit accessories seized in the European Union.

A few years ago, a Danish art student depicted a starving holding a LV-designed handbag as part of a campaign to raise money for charity. In 2008, LV took the art student, Nadia Plesner, to court claiming that she had infringed copyright; the court ruled in LV’s favour. LV demanded up to €22,500 for each day that she continued to infringe copyright. In 2011, LV went back to court to claim a further €205,000 from Nadia Plesner. This time the court ruled against LV and in favour of the student’s right to freedom of expression.

Do you own any luxury products made by Louis Vuitton or other luxury fashion houses?
Do you own any counterfeit luxury products?

I too have never heard of Louis Vuitton. Being honest, I could not cheat because I couldn't find the answer!
I do not own anything by the company nor anything counterfeit!

I cheated and looked it up and it was not for the reason I would of guessed.
But I have heard of the brand.

Interesting...I have LV items but my first ever luxury purchase was a Gucci bag from the Gucci store in Honolulu when I was 19. My first love will always be Gucci.

It was an odd decision, but the first advert was banned because it gave the impression that LV products are hand-stitched when they're not.

It was a strange decision. The first advert was banned because it gave the impression that LV products are hand-stitched when they're not, but the second advert wasn't banned even though it gives the impression that Madonna wants sex!

It is nit-picking to a new level for adverts! Most adverts should be banned if this criterion is used.

I tend to avoid buying designer clothes as I don't want to be a walking advert!

I guess, if I were filthy rich, was a globe-trotter, and had more money than I knew what to do with - I wouldn't mind some Louis Vuitton luggage.

But I am not a fan of buying exorbitantly expensive "name brand" goods. I don't think I should need to pay to advertise someone else's wears.

I have bought a couple of (to me) expensive leather handbags, and they went out of style before they wore out.

Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

Like you, I try and avoid being a walking advert with designer-label clothes etc.
