CLICK HERE IF UGLY ... Yes, click here if ugly is what you want to read about! Two upmarket restaurants in Paris have been accused of seating diners according to how ugly they are. The two restaurants, Le Georges and Café Marly, are owned by two brothers, Gilbert and Thierry Costes, who told a newspaper, Le Canard Enchaîné: “The good-looking ones are led to the good places, where they can be easily seen. As for the non good-looking ones, it is imperative that they be dispatched to the corners of the room.” Their rule, they claimed, is a way of raising the image of their restaurants. "There are beautiful people, you put them here. There are not-beautiful people, you put them there - it's really not that complicated”, one of the brothers said according to a former hostess of one of their restaurants. She added that “Gilbert Costes drummed these house rules into us, pretty in the front, ugly in the back.” If hostesses seated ugly diners at the front of the restaurant, they would be reprimanded, “What are these ugly mugs doing at this table? Everyone can see them when they come in. It’s very bad for our image.” The only exceptions to the ‘pretty in the front, ugly in the back’ rule are for celebrities who will be seated at the front of the restaurants. Telephone reservations were problematic for the restaurant, but hostesses were “taught to look for linguistic clues which could tell us whether these were ‘beautiful people’ or not.” If in doubt, hostesses were told to allocate them a table on arrival so hostesses can determine their beauty. The restaurants’ hostesses were also recruited according to their beauty - anyone "without a model's physique and over 30 need not apply". One hostess was told off for "not showing my breasts enough". Earlier in the year, Abercrombie & Fitch were criticised for employing only “good looking people” at their flagship store in Paris. Given there are laws in many countries banning discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation, perhaps there should be laws to ban discrimination on the grounds of ugliness, however defined. Would you eat at a restaurant with a ‘pretty in the front, ugly in the back’ rule? Where would you be seated in the Le Georges and Café Marly restaurants? Do you think ugly people are discriminated against? If so, do you think there should be a law to ban such discrimination? Have you had sex in a restaurant? |

Wouldn't eat there, so I don't have to worry about where I would sit. There should be a law against such a rule! Never had sex in a restaurant!

Ugly being a subjective term, I would be seated in the back. I was out last year with an old college roommate. She used to be the beautiful one in our group. A real head turner but time had taken it's toll. The restaurant we chose was an upscale place with similar ideas about seating. When we arrived they sat us in front by the window. My friend was impressed. She relayed to me, during her last visit to the place, she was seated near the kitchen. I found this curious and asked the waiter why we had been seated near the window. He smiled and explained, the hostess was a former student of mine at the university and believed I had celebrity status because of the work I had done there. So, sometimes brains, not beauty pay off.

It's a crazy rule and I wouldn't knowingly go to a restaurant that has this rule.

..that's why I cook at home...... I was in Harve de Grace Maryland...in a Italian restaurant a few years ago..the woman I was with was putting the pregnant waitress through hell...I went back to apologize ...the next thing I knew I was getting fucked in the women's restroom by one heck of a waitress...while my date waited out front... ..needless to say I gave her a 50% tip and put the woman I was with in a taxi to wherever she wanted to go away from me... Blue... The Italian restaurant certainly provided good service!

I'm unsure whether I would eat at an attractive up front and unattractive at the back restaurant as there are so many other variables to consider, for example, the food, the service and whether all patrons are treated respectfully in all ways other than seating placement. I never have had sex in a restaurant but I have witnessed a man giving his trans-partner a blowjob under the table whilst waiting for their meal to arrive. She was fairly convincing but his head was bobbing up 'n' down too vigorously for him to have been performing cunnilingus. I suspect that I would be seated somewhere between the middle and the front in such a restaurant if the complements that I regularly receive about my looks are anything to go by.

I'm impressed by your moral conscience on this matter PS Also, by sitting with the ugly diners, I will look more beautiful.
