WHERE WERE YOU?

WHERE WERE YOU?

My guess is that this will be one of your 'where were your moments?' with the death of Nelson Mandela. I was just about to go to bed when someone shouted up, "Nelson Mandela is dead". I know it was long predicted but it made me think. The world is a lesser place for his death. Who else can have such an audience?

I've never come across anyone who has transcended every division in society - white or black, rich or poor, male or female, and old or young - in the name of justice and peace, and who has received such acclaim.

The shootings of JFK and John Lennon are remembered, the resignations of Margaret Thatcher and Richard Nixon are recalled, the deaths of Princess Diana and Elvis Presley are recited and the way Bill Clinton and the Queen work a room are reminisced. But the death of Nelson Mandela, though expected, will beat the lot by a mile! He had a simple idea which he turned into a lauded practice. Have I gone over the top?

Where were you when you heard that Nelson Mandela was dead?
What did Nelson Mandela mean to you?

I'm still waiting to hear the first Nelson Mandela joke! It won't be long, but it'll be further testament to his life.

We were at home watching the news. I just posted a blog about Mandela. He was extremely important to humanity. There are other's taking up the fight so all is not lost. As long as we have atrocities against humans, we will have hero's to champion.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

His death is still reported in the news here, almost non-stop by the BBC.

His death is dominating news bulletins in the UK. The BBC had sent a lot of staff over to South Africa a few months back, so they've prepared a lot of footage.

He had a very rare talent among politicians of bringing people together.

I think Mandela would perhaps have given a wry smile knowing that you were on Affairlook while he died! I had just finished playing on Affairlook when I heard he had died.
