A SINGING CHRISTMAS TREE

I’ve never come across a Singing Christmas tree until I read the newspaper yesterday. A Singing Christmas Tree is a specially constructed and artificial Christmas tree filled with choir singers; and, with an accompanying orchestra, it is often used as part of nativity plays. Above is a Singing Christmas Tree with 240 singers from Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, Oregon. This school holds the record for the tallest Singing Christmas Tree in America; it stood at 67 feet tall, was filled with 300 singers and was accompanied by a 55-piece orchestra.

The tradition of the Christmas tree developed in Germany possibly as far back as the fifteenth century. Artificial Christmas trees were also first developed in Germany during the nineteenth century. Singing at Christmas, known as caroling, originated in thirteenth-century Europe. A choir from Belhaven University in Mississippi was to first to combine the traditions of Christmas Trees and caroling by having a Singing Christmas Tree in 1933. The Singing Christmas Tree tradition has now spread to many other countries, including Canada, the Philippines, South Korea and Switzerland, though I’ve never come across one.

Have you come across a Singing Christmas Tree?
Are you planning to put up a Christmas tree (or equivalent)? If so, will a fairy top your tree?
Do you believe in fairies?

After weeks of relentless television adverts, I’m starting to get excited about Xmas. I love Xmas, especially the eating, drinking and presents (plus no work for a week!). I’m undecided whether to put up a Xmas tree but, if I do, it will be topped with a very camp fairy. I still believe in fairies. At work, there is a washing-up fairy – I leave a dirty cup at the end of the day and magically it’s washed up by the next day.

I have never seen a singing tree but I would love to!
We put up a tree every year, with an angel at the top.
I used to be a tooth fairy, so I must believe in them,
But more importantly, I believe in angels, as I have several watching over me!

On television, I have seen a signing tree. We have our tree up ( as blogged) with a Santa on top. fairies....I have a fairy tree in my yard. Living in a heavily wooded area, it is hard not to believe.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

I have never encountered the phenomenon that is a singing Christmas tree... I'm undecided at this point whether to put up a Christmas tree but if I do, will more likely top it with a star than a fairy. I'm not a believer in fairies but believe fairly strongly in guardian angels.
My Mum is my guardian angel.

The tooth fairy didn't visit me when I had a tooth out the other month. She owes me!

I've just bought a very small Xmas tree to put up. It's so small, it requires no decorating!

I put up a Yule tree every year. I've had different toppers. This year it's a wire star.

I met some fairies down in Maryland at the Free Spirit Gathering a few years ago. Yep, I'm talking hot babes with gossamer wings. Boy, they sure can dance!
I'm off to Maryland this Xmas!
