NO SEX PLEASE, WE’RE BRITISH


Rather than ‘No Sex Please, We’re British’ title of Alistair Foot and Anthony Marriott’s comedy play, this post should be titled ‘Less Sex Please, We’re British’!

The National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles has measured attitudes towards sex over the past two decades in the UK. The survey has found that, on average, British people have less sex now than they did ten years ago. The average number of times per month 16 to 44 year-olds have sex has fallen from 6.2 to 4.9 for men and has fallen from 6.3 to 4.8 for women.

But the survey has found that British people have more sexual partners than they had twenty years ago. The average number of sexual partners of the opposite gender that 16 to 44 year olds have had in a lifetime has risen from 8.6 to 11.7 for men and has risen from 3.7 to 7.7 for women. However, a greater proportion of British people, especially women, have had sex with people of the same gender over the last twenty years. Twenty years ago, 4 per cent of women had sex with another woman; now 16 per cent of women have had sex with another woman. There was only a slight increase for men over this period from 6 per cent to 7 per cent.

Another findings from the survey are that 42 per cent of women and 60 per cent of men aged 65-74 have had at least sexual partner over the last year. The survey also found that far more British people think extramarital sex is wrong compared to twenty years ago.

 1. Not really, gratified that more people over 65 seem to be enjoying an active sex life, and completely skeptical that men can have so many more partners than women - that's statistically impossible unless of course we're talking about self administered sex!!
2. Less than 5% off a.f.f men will have had sex in the last decade, guaranteed!!

 The British rocks!!! Didn't you know that.. I would think it would be the same for this side of the pond too. As for older folks I am not there yet so I can't make comment. hugs V

I'm pleased that older people are still having sex!
As you say, the average bwetween men and women should be more or less the same, unless British men are having lots of sex on their foreign holidays. No, some people are over-estimating and some are under-estimating.

I'm not in the older person category yet, but I find it very reassuring that sex still happens. Bring on my zimmerframe!
