TRAVELLING THE LONELY PLANET
TRAVELLING THE LONELY PLANET Though the television series, Downton Abbey is set in Yorkshire, Highclere Castle in Hampshire is used for much of its location shots. Below is the real stately home of Castle Howard in North Yorkshire, the setting for the Granada Television’s adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited novel. Lonely Planet, once owned by the BBC, is the world’s largest travel guide book publisher. According to Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2014, the top ten countries to visit are: 1. Brazil 2. Antarctica 3. Scotland 4. Sweden 5. Malawi 6. Mexico 7. Seychelles 8. Belgium 9. Macedonia 10. Malaysia And, the top ten regions of the world to visit are: 1. Sikkim, India 2. The Kimberley, Australia 3. Yorkshire, UK 4. Hokuriku, Japan 5. Texas, USA 6. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe & Zambia 7. Mallorca, Spain 8. West Coast, New Zealand 9. Hunan, China 10. Ha'apai, Tonga I am amazed that Scotland is number three country and Yorkshire is number three region! Scotland and Yorkshire are beautiful places to visit but should they be so high on Lonely Planet’s list? Arizona’s Grand Canyon, Norway’s fjords and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef don’t make the lists, though I’m relieved that Dubai doesn’t make the lists! Have you visited any of these Lonely Planet top places? What are the best places that you have visited? What places do you want to visit? What place in your home region, would you recommend a tourist to visit? From the Lonely Planet lists, I have visited Scotland, Sweden, Mexico, Belgium and Yorkshire. My favourite countries that I have visited are France, Mexico and The Gambia; and my favourite cities that I have visited are New York, Barcelona and Amsterdam. The places I want to visit are Greenland, the Brazilian Amazon and Canada - I've only visited Québec. If a visitor came to Nottingham, I would recommend they see the caves, enough for 20,000 people to seek shelter during the Second World War blitz. |

I have never been to any of those places! I have been to Germany and my favorite was the Cathedral in Cologne, and museums in Berlin! I would love to visit Scotland, Ireland and England! Castles fascinate me! If you came this was, Calgary is something to see.

1. Yep, many of them. And many of them still to see. 2. Too many to mention, anything de america latina and west africa though would probably take the top spots. 3. Everywhere. I've a real hankering for Antartica for some reason. And Istanbul. 4. The Highlands, Glasgow, Edinburgh, the Western Isles. Scotland definitely deserves a place in the top 10, though perhaps 3rd is a little high, but it's all a question of perspective I suppose. I think it achieved the rating against the background of the Commie Games and the Edinburgh Fringe. Biggest and best of it's sort on this earth. And there's not alot wrong with Yorkshire McPunkster, some of the most beautiful country side and towns and villages of anywhere in the UK! It definitely deserves a high rating!!

Not yet but these places are on my bucket list for sure for England Scotland and Ireland. Some of the other places I have not travelled. I only been to rest of the world for work. I want to get over there and see a few things my mother was always talking to me about from her childhood. She was born in Scotland. I think Vancouver British Columbia is on the top places to visit in Canada. I did love Quebec City as well when I was there back in 2007. hugs V The white poppy Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

I'm persuaded with your case for Scotland; I've loved every visit I've made over the border. But Yorkshire!?

I would be very happy to be your host if you visit the UK. Nottingham has a lot of history!

I hope you'll give me a call when you're next in Nottingham - there are no midges unless you hang out by the River Trent!
