When blindfolded, people cannot walk in a straight line for long, even though they think are walking straight line. Also, if lost in a desert or a dense forest, people cannot walk in a straight line. When they are no landmarks, people tend to walk in a curved loop and not, as they wrongly believe, in a straight line.

Scientists are unclear why people cannot walk straight when there are no external reference points. Many experiments have been conducted with blindfolded people walking but scientists still do not know why we walk in loops. Scientists have ruled out body asymmetrics (eg different left and right leg lengths) and random errors for the cause of loopy walking. They believe that it may be caused by a person’s brain and inner ear in sensing balance. I think they may have missed an obvious cause in some cases, alcohol! I can now blame my brain’s vestibular and propioceptive systems if I ever fall over when drunk.

 I am a bit of a fuddy duddy about blindfolds. I get the sexiness of them for play, I just cannot "let go" enough to enjoy, I do wish I could though
