COFFEE AND SEX
COFFEE AND SEX My apologies for the length of this blog but it features three things I love – coffee, politics and sex! Today – 29 September – is International Coffee Day, This day of celebrating coffee is marked in several countries, such as China, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Taiwan and the US. Coffeehouses spread to Europe and later America, via the Ottoman Empire, from the Middle East where they have thrived since the fifteenth century. England’s first coffeehouse opened in Oxford in 1650; America’s first coffeehouse opened in Boston in 1676; and France’s first coffeehouse opened in Paris in 1689. By the seventeenth century, coffeehouses were firmly established across Europe and North America; in 1675, there were more than 3,000 coffeehouses in England. The number of coffeehouses increased worldwide after the invention of the modern espresso machine in Milan in 1945. In 1971, Starbucks opened its first store in Seattle; there are now well over 16,000 Starbucks stores across the world. That's quite a journey, from a Muslim drink to a drink organised by American capitalism! Coffeehouses became very popular meeting places. The French Enlightenment was widely discussed in Paris coffeehouses. American rebellion against the English was widely discussed in Boston coffeehouses; the Boston Tea Party should have been called the Boston Coffee Party! Coffeehouses often drew the attention of the ruling authorities. In the early sixteenth century, religious leaders banned coffeehouses in Mecca as they became places for political gatherings. In England, Charles II tried unsuccessfully to outlaw coffeehouses in 1676 as he believed they were fermenting rebellion. Historically, there has been a strong association between coffee and sex. In 1571, the Venetian ambassador to Turkey wrote that drinking coffee caused men to become homosexual. In the middle of the seventeenth century, prostitutes used to frequent coffeehouses that were frequented only by men. Women started to petition against coffeehouses. Above is the 1674 petition organised by women in London. The petition stated: “Coffee leads men to trifle away their time, scald their chops, and spend their money, all for a little base, black, thick, nasty, bitter, stinking nauseous puddle water.... excessive use of that newfangled, abominable, heathenish liquor called coffee, which riffling nature of her choicest treasures, and drying up the radical moisture, has so eunucht our husbands, and crippled our more kind gallants, that they are become as impotent as age, and as unfruitful as those deserts where that unhappy berry is said to be brought.” Women were not getting sex from men because of coffeehouses! The petition was not successful. By the eighteenth century, coffee was seen as a way of enhancing sexual pleasure. There is some scientific evidence that coffee, as a stimulant, enhances someone’s libido. One scientific study found that old people had more sex by drinking at least one cup of coffee a day. Another scientific study found that caffeine increases the female libido in experiments on rats. Finally, a recent survey of travellers in six countries found that they would sooner give up sex than coffee! If you had to give up either drinking coffee or having sex, what would you choose? Do you like coffee? If so, what coffee do you drink? What do you prefer, coffee or tea or something else? |

I love my coffee in the morning first thing. I really had to cut back because I was drinking so much of it at work but now two cups a day finally.. That would be a really hard choice there. How about coffee tea and you! Does that work? hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

"That's quite a journey, from a Muslim drink to a drink organised by American capitalism!" Coffee is an Arabic drink, not a Muslim one!, it has to do with culture rather than religion. Thats like saying Beer is a Christian drink, because it was largely brewed in the monasteries by monks in the early middle ages.

Have never drunk coffee, cannot stand the smell.

..... Am I weird that I gave up coffee without someone putting a gun to my head?? I used to be borderline addicted but I decided I wanted to be caffeine free, and now am. I substituted it for green tea and love it. I had heard that caffeine reduces boob size, which was my motivation. I think there is truth behind it. I can't believe some of you can't decide between sex or coffee.... C'mon people! There are other hot beverages... There's no "other" for sex! I love coffee! I like my coffee black, no room. I prefer a light roast because the darker the roast the less caffeine, albeit, I don't need it for my libido. If I had to make a choice between coffee or sex, I would commit a perfidy and not castigate myself for this action.

If you had to give up either drinking coffee or having sex, what would you choose? I would miss it, sex will win over coffee though. Do you like coffee? If so, what coffee do you drink? I have a cup of coffee every morning. I take mine with a sweetened creamer, hazelnut is my favorite. What do you prefer, coffee or tea or something else? I drink coffee in the morning, tea at night and something else during the day.

This is a great post, spunky... Well done! If I had to give up drinking coffee or having sex, I'd choose decapitation. I like coffee very much but drinking it does make your breath smell like arse... My daily brew of choice is (product plug) Nescafe Green Blend as it is rich in antioxidants, which I use to keep me juvenile... My special occasion perc is (product plug) Harris Mocha Kenya because I just love its aroma and taste. My favourite drink is cum... FACT!

I've never been able to get into Earl Grey tea. I occasionally try but I just don't like the aroma.

Thanks for your post. That sounds an intriguing combination - coffee and sex at the same time. I'd be willing to volunteer my cock for a drink of coffee!

I love my coffee super strong... 2 heaped teaspoons, when instant and 5 tablespoons when percolated... I do drink tea, too and it's always 3 bags of strong blend... I do have milk and one sugar for each of the beverages mentioned above.

At home I always drink my coffee with Coffeemate, a milk whitener.
