OLFACTOPHILIA


An olfactophiliac is someone who is sexually attracted to and sexually aroused by bodily odours and smells. Olfactophilia is sometimes called osmolagnia; Sigmund Freud used the term osphresiolagnia to describe the condition of gaining pleasure from smelling odours.

In Japan, Joji Kondo was recently arrested for stealing 200 bicycle seats. He stole the seats so he could smell, in his words, “the lingering odour of women”. This olfactophiliac was an expert in distinguishing bicycle seat odours. He could easily distinguish between a bicycle seat used by a man and one used by a woman. His favourite bicycle seat was a leather saddle as they were “best for trapping the scent of a female rider”. He also licked the stolen bicycle seats as well.

My sense of smell is terrible. I can hardly smell anything! My favourite smells are coffee, curry and lavender.
