UNPLEASANT PORN


Recent research has found that porn only makes unpleasant people more sexist; porn does not make pleasant people more sexist.

Researchers from the University of Copenhagen and University of California, Los Angeles recruited 100 men and 100 women as research participants. The participants had their personalities tested and were then required to watch a 30-minute video clip. Half the group watched a hardcore porn film - the Latex and Gigantic films, and the other half watched a wildlife documentary - David Attenborough’s The Blue Planet programme on whales. After watching the video clip, participants were asked questions about their views towards women.

The researchers found that most participants’ attitudes towards women did not change after watching either the porn or the wildlife video clip, except for those participants whose personality was tested as unpleasant. Researchers found that unpleasant participants only became moderately more sexist after watching the hardcore porn video clip.

This research has found that it is personality not porn exposure that makes people sexist. – see G M Hald, N N Malamuth & T Lange (2013) ‘Pornography and sexist attitudes among heterosexuals’ Journal of Communication 63(4).

* I can't imagine why it would, unless they are the type to believe everything they see in movies, and are unable to distinguish between acting and reality.

Watching porn with a partner is great, though when I did I rarely saw the end of the film!

Some psychologists put great faith in their personality tests as an objective measure of personality. I'm not so sure these personality tests are so scientific.
