SECRET SEX LIVES

Tomorrow – Saturday, 7 September – sees the launch of Secret Sex Lives: Swingers, a four-part reality television series, on the Discovery Fit & Health channel. The photo used to promote the series, see above, is remarkably similar to that used for the 1969 film Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice that starred Natalie Wood and Elliott Gould. In this film, two couples, after confessing their affairs to each other, are naked in bed together are about to swap partners but stop just short!

This is how Discovery describes its Secret Sex Lives series:
According to Swinger Social Network, swingers account for 2-4 percent of married couples—estimating numbers in excess of 2 million people in North America. These couples are average adults—some are professionals, parents and caretakers—in committed relationships who together make the consensual decision to swing for recreational purposes.
Delving into this mysterious and daring lifestyle, Secret Sex Lives: Swingers follows four typical American couples—leading busy lives and juggling marriage, and careers. But behind closed doors, these husbands and wives share one surprising thing in common—they lead double lives as swingers.
Set in Atlanta, Georgia, a bustling, traditional Southern city that is also home to a lively swinger scene, this program will explore the complex nuances of the relationships and psychology behind this way of life. Swinging couples struggle with how they choose to keep their lifestyle hidden from family, friends and co-workers. Illustrating the importance of strong communication and solid relationships, these couples are proud of how “normal” and functioning they are in a society that shuns their lifestyle.
Secret Sex Lives: Swingers captures the deep internal struggles these couples confront—and the repercussions of exposing their lives to family, close friends and the outside world, busting myths and dispelling misconceptions about this hidden lifestyle along the way.

Will you watch Secret Sex Lives?
Do you ever watch reality television?
Have you appeared, or would you appear, on a reality television programme?

I cannot watch Secret Sex Lives because I cannot get the Discovery channel on my limited television set-up, so I’d be interested in knowing what it’s like. But it surely has to be more interesting than the non-swinging Wife Swap reality television series that was shown in Britain, America and Australia. I can never understand why people appear on reality television series without thinking about Andy Warhol’s phrase, “everyone will be world-famous for fifteen minutes".

Presumably the Discovery Channel. I think I read somewhere that you can see the series via the internet.

I'm not a big fan of reality television because it rarely seems real. Give me actors!

I think reality tv is staged and poorly acted... The genre lost its spark about 5 - 7 years ago and now television seems to be saturated with this tripe in one form or another.
I guess reality television is cheap to make and, if it attracts viewers, lucrative in raising advertising revenue. If I see a reality programme on television, I immediately reach for the zapper.
