A TAXI DRIVER, A TAXI AND SEX


The Norwegian Prime Minister, Jens Steltenburg, worked for one afternoon in June as a secret taxi driver around the streets of Oslo. He did this to find out the views of real Norwegians. "It is important for me to hear what people really think," said the Prime Minister, “and if there is one place people really say what they think about most things, it's in the taxi." Though he was incognito, most passengers recognised him; he did not charge his passengers a fare. It is a mere coincidence that there are parliamentary elections in September with his party behind in the polls and that his afternoon’s work as a taxi driver was filmed for the election campaign!

What job do you think a politician should do for a day to see what life is really like for people they represent?

My suggestions would be a care home worker, call centre operator, chimney sweep, toilet attendant, or a suicide bomber!

In Dubai, a British woman and an Irish man were arrested and jailed for being drunk in a public place and having sex outside marriage last year. After a long drinking binge, Rebecca Blake and Conor McRedmond got a taxi and then, it is claimed, had sex in the taxi. The taxi driver stopped his taxi and reported them to the police. The police officer claimed, “They kept having sex for four minutes. The man’s shirt was open, his trousers were down to his knees and the woman was not wearing any underwear. The couple accepted the drunkenness charge but denied the sex charge. However, and despite no DNA evidence found of sex having taken place, a Dubai court sentenced the couple to serve three months in prison. On appeal, their sentence was reduced to two months in prison.

 I saw that story about Jens Steltenburg. I thought it was genius!

People really do talk about anything and everything in the back of a cab. And if there's a big political story in the news, I'm bound to end up in a conversation about it sometime during the day.

I've have plenty of naughty things happen in the back of my cab. (Short of actual intercourse though.) I keep my eyes on the road.
They'd better not leave a mess back there!
