SLEEPING AROUND

In 2007, Durex conducted a global survey to find out the average number of sexual partners for men and women in countries worldwide.

The survey found that Austrian men have the highest number of sexual partners for men in the world. On average, Austrian men have 29.3 sexual partners.

The survey also found that New Zealand women have the highest number of sexual partners for women in the world. On average, New Zealand women have 20.4 sexual partners.

Finally, the survey found that, in every country except New Zealand, men reported more sexual partners than women. This finding is a mathematical impossibility. David Gale, a distinguished mathematician from the University of California, developed the High School Prom Theorem to prove that men and women must have the same average number of sexual partners – see a previous blog post, WHAT IS IT WITH MEN PART ONE, for more details of this theorem.

Are you surprised with the sexual antics in Austria and New Zealand?
If a man, how do you compare with Austrian men?
If a woman, how do you compare with New Zealand women?
Is it men overplaying or women downplaying their number of sexual partners?

1. Yes, I don't believe that Austrian finding, and no, I do believe the NZ one.
2. I've met a few, they seem to be kinda similar to brits?
4. I would guess that it's men over-playing?

It's bleeding obvious that the averages must be the same - for every new partner a man has that woman also has a new partner.

But those averages are much higher than the ones usually given - possibly because it's a self-selecting population (both in terms of using Durex and choosing to respond).

Oh shit.
I would say that I have led a very sheltered life, and I certainly don't 'sleep around', but my numbers are higher than these.

I am almost 50yo, and have only spent 8.5 of those years in a relationship. The rest of the time I have been completely single.
Would that affect the figures at all?

It seems that most people are in relationships (of some sort) for most of their lives, so it figures that would keep their numbers lower, doesn't it?

Or am I just grasping at straws here, Dr S????

It still took an academic to prove averages have to be the same!

    1. Yes I am very surprised as I would never have that many partners in a lifetime.
    3. I am way behind these ladies
    4. I think it is women downplaying actually.

I honestly have only been with enough people to count on one hand.
I think women possibly downplay, but I suspect men may also exaggerate their numbers.

There's no problem with grasping at straws. Perhaps a move to New Zealand should be on the cards!
