ART FOR ART'S SAKE

Above is a painting of Prince William, titled Crown Jewels. The painter, Karine Percheron-Daniel, has done some interesting nude portraits of Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Prince Harry, Duchess of Cambridge, Che Guevara, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Margaret Thatcher, and Pope Benedict.

Have you had your portrait, nude or not nude, painted?
Would you sit naked for a portrait?

The Crown Jewels is also a burlesque cabaret show partly planned for British army veterans seriously injured in Afghanistan. The show was deemed too risqué by the Ministry of Defence, which has issued orders that the soldiers cannot attend the show.

In Victorian England, burlesque were parody shows designed to generate laughter through the ludicrous treatment of people. The word, burlesque, derives from the Italian word, burla, meaning a joke, ridicule or mockery. Burlesque went out of fashion by the late 19th century in Britain, but flourished in the US with its emphasis on women getting naked. The American form of burlesque is now enjoying a revival in Britain over the last decade. Fiona Wilson is an artist specialising in painting burlesque shows.

Have you been to a burlesque show?
Is a burlesque the equivalent to an erotic strip show?

'Art for Art’s Sake' is an English phrase, borrowed from the early 19th century French slogan 'Art pour l’Art', signifying that art should only ever be judged as art and nothing more which means that anything goes in art. 'Art for Art’s Sake' was also Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s motto and a 10cc hit single in the mid-1970s.

Should anything be regarded as art?
Does anyone else like 10cc’s album, How Dare You!, which contained their hit single, Art for Art’s Sake?
Do you remember the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s films starting with the roar of the lion?

I’ve never got rid of my liking of 10cc – I’m Mandy Fly Me, I’m Not in Love, Rubber Bullets, The Wall Street Shuffle, Dreadlock Holiday...! I’m also nostalgic about the introductions of old films, especially Rank’s gong and Paramount’s mountain.

No and maybe to the nude portrait.
I do remember the "roar" of the lion.

I'm quite nostalgic for that lion's roar!
