I’ve just read a problem sent to The Times’ sex counsel, Suzi Godson. The letter was from a woman who wrote: “I love my husband very much but hate giving him oral sex. I used to do it on occasion but now really can’t be bothered.”

Suzi Godson replied that oral sex “is meant to be an equal-opportunity experience”. She suggested that the husband should take a hot bath before oral sex, eat lots of pineapple, and avoid eating curry and garlic.

She advised the wife to perfect a “better technique”. Godson wrote that, given most of penis’s 6,000 nerve endings are in the head, attention should be “concentrated in the head and the frenulum, the Y-shaped ridge at the back of the head” while also wrapping “a thumb and forefinger around the base of the shaft”.
