A EUNUCH'S TALE  A eunuch is a castrated man, though in the past a celibate or impotent man was sometimes called a eunuch. Traditionally eunuchs would be forcibly castrated in order to for them to perform certain roles, eg servants, courtiers, castrato singers, government officials, religious specialists, harem guardians, slaves. The first recorded practice of castration to produce eunuchs was in the Sumerian city of Lagash, in what is now southern Iraq, during the 21st century BC. In China, prisoners of war were often not only castrated but also had their penises cut off at the same time. Eunuch slaves were used to create the Terracotta Army during the Qin dynasty. Sun Yaoting, who died in 1996, was the last living eunuch in China. His father cut off his testicles, without anaesthetic, in the hope that his would serve Emperor Pu Yi in the Forbidden City during the 1930s. During the Cultural Revolution, initiated by Mao Zedong in the mid-1970s to rid China of bourgeois culture, Sun Yaoting’s father decided to throw away his pickled genitals so that his was not identified to the imperial past. Sun Yaoting had hoped to be reunited with his pickled genitalia, which he called his ‘treasure’, to become a whole man at his death. Research has found that eunuch men live 13.5 years longer than non-eunuch men. If a man, would you consider castration to live longer? Should male sex offenders be forcibly castrated? I think it may be an alternative to a sex offender. I don't know why, but it is excruciatingly painful to be kicked in the balls. My first wife did so on our honeymoon. There was NO sex that night.
