In 1965, Reyn Guyer invented the game, Twister. Originally called King’s Footsie, the game struggled to attract investment. Retailers were uncomfortable with the game’s sexual undercurrents – Sears thought it was not appropriate to include in its shopping catalogue.

Twister then appeared on the popular American Tonight Show on 3 May 1966. Johnny Carson, the show’s host, played Twister with the actress, Eva Gabor. Sales of the game rocketed immediately after the show.

It is claimed that over 65 million people worldwide have played Twister.
