'WE'RE ALL IN IT TOGETHER'!

Here is a picture of an old election poster used by the Labour Party.

Today the not-so-beloved Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, announced the Coalition Government’s budget. Rather than pointlessly shouting at the television, I thought I would pointlessly let rip here!

The budget, generally, is more of the same – welfare cuts for the poor and tax cuts for the rich. The UK, according to many economists, is heading for a triple-dip recession. In times of austerity, political and business leaders keep up the mantra, ‘we’re all in it together’, and demand that we all must make sacrifices. But we’re not all in it together and we're not all making sacrifices!

Karl Marx predicted that the working class would revolt against the capitalist class. He was wrong. It is the capitalist class that are revolting against the working class. The super-rich can move their money to tax havens; they increasingly live in gated and guarded communities apart from ordinary people; they buy what they need and what they don't need; they award themselves massive pay rises and bonuses; they threaten to uproot if they don’t like their native country; they demonise the poor as workshy; they lobby and threaten government for business-friendly policy; they expect workers to work harder; and, they are very rich and I’m not!

Rant over! My apologies - I know politics is not everyone’s favourite topic on a sex site!

Are you into politics?
What should governments do in times of recession?
Would you like to be super-rich?

I'm not too into politics, so I don't have ideas in times of recession.
Wouldn't anyone want to be super rich?

For me it's summed up by one idea: that the rich need tax cuts to incentivize them to work harder but the poor need pay cuts (and the threat of job losses) to get them to work harder.

Great rant McPunky, concise and accurate, well said! Take from the poor and give to the rich which in times of austerity will only serve to stimulate their greed even more! And Bah!!

Trade unions are very much needed now, but they still get demonised by business and political leaders.

Trade unions are great, until you live in the States. Trade Unions have nearly banfrupted various states because of the excessively high guaranteed retirement benefits. Look to California--Stockton Ca. is the largest city in the country to file bankruptcy. This, in part, because of the union guaranteed retirements for city employees that the city can no longer afford. Imagine a city bankrupted because of the excessive greed of unions. Retirement is necessary, greed is not.
