WHAT IS IT WITH THE DUTCH?
WHAT IS IT WITH THE DUTCH? Above is a photo of a Dutch police officer. Even police uniforms are better in The Netherlands! Do you get turned on by people wearing a uniform? Many people say Holland to mean The Netherlands but, strictly speaking, Holland covers only the Western part of The Netherlands. The word, Dutch, is almost certainly derived from the word, Deutsch, meaning German. The Netherlands is my favourite country. I would love to live there. If I had to change my citizenship, I would opt for Dutch citizenship. If you had to change your citizenship, what country’s citizenship would you take? Below are five Dutch trivia: 1. Double Dutch is used to describe a phrase or a language that no one understands. During and after the Anglo-Dutch wars of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the English held the Dutch in low regard. Consequently, there are several English phrases portraying the Dutch in an unflattering light. The term, Double Dutch, came about either because the English could not understand the Dutch language or because, as an insult, the Dutch don’t say what they mean. In the 1803 Travels of Four Years and a Half in the United States of America book, John Davis wrote, "Mr Adams - What devil language is that? Is it double Dutch coiled against the sun?". 2. Dutch courage refers to courage gained by drinking alcohol. Dutch troops would often drink jenever, Dutch gin, before fighting English in the wars between the two countries in the seventeenth century. Gin became very popular in England after William of Orange, from the Dutch Republic, took the English throne in 1650. 3. New York, until 1667, was called New Amsterdam. It was a seventeenth-century Dutch settlement on Manhattan but the English forcibly seized control of the colony and re-named the settlement New York in honour of the Duke of York, who later became James II, the king of England. 4. Going Dutch means splitting the bill, with each person paying for their food and drink at a restaurant. This is common on a first date between two people as neither is beholden to the other. 5. More recently. Total Football, or Totaalvoetbal in Dutch, is the football term where any outfield player can play in any position on the pitch. It was pioneered Rinus Michels, the manager of the Amsterdam team, Ajax, and the Dutch national football team to very successful effect. |

Uniforms does nothing for me. Changing citizenship, well no. I could not ponder living in anywhere else other than Australia

I'm neutral about uniforms, though I do like wearing a smart suit (mainly because I don't have to wear one at work!).
