POKER FACE

Dr Jack Berdy, a New York doctor, has recently introduced Pokertox, a programme of Botox and facial fillers designed to enhance a player's poker face. He claims that this programme will help hide any sign of facial emotion that may tell other poker players on whether the Pokertox-ed player has a good or bad hand.

The doctor consulted poker players about their ‘tells’, the unconscious signals they give off to other players in the game of poker. "Some people might get a card they like or don't like and raise their eyebrows," Berdy said. "If that's the common reaction, we can put Botox in certain areas to minimize them."

Other facial signals on the face may include a tendency to squint or curl the corners of the lips. Berdy said Pokertox can also help poker players to bluff. "We can also put Botox in areas to make it look like the player has a 'tell' they really don't have," he said.

For poker-mad Berdy, Pokertox was a way to make lots of money, not least because an application only lasts a few months, thus requiring regular applications to keep the player’s poker face. So far, poker players are resisting his programme of Botox.

Josh Hale, who has competed on the World Poker Tour, thinks Pokertox may be many years too late. "The game has moved on from bluffs, and is more analytical these days," he told The Huffington Post. "Players might look at physical tells, but they are relying more on betting patterns and bet sizing."

Do you play poker?
Do you have a poker face?
Would you consider having Pokertox?
Do you think Joan Rivers would be a very good poker player?
Have you had, or would you consider, having Botox to change your facial appearance?

I play a little, online. (Where they can't see you!)

I'd like to play in person someday, but I doubt that even Pokertox could take away all of my tells.

Joan Rivers would talk too much! (I think she's be easy to beat.)

No Botox for me.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

No to all.

This is not meant to offend any one in any way.

The few times I've played a poker, I've lost lots of money. It's Botox for me!

Do you think Joan Rivers would be a very good poker player?

Like counting cards and the like, I would think they would kick Joan Rivers out for concealing her face with too muck plastic preventing them from really seeing what she's thinking.

By the way, was on a flight with Joan Rivers a few years back, she looks much worse in person. Stage makeup apparently does wonders.
