A Swiss scientist, Franz Messerli, found a strong correlation between a country’s chocolate consumption and its number of Nobel prizes awarded to that country – see graph inside. In a top science journal, The New England Journal of Medicine, he suggests that intelligence is linked to eating chocolate.

Switzerland eats the most chocolate and has received the most Nobel Laureates per head. The UK, Norway and Denmark eat a lot of chocolate and they receive a lot of Novel prizes. France, the Netherlands and the US eat an average amount of chocolate and they receive an average number of Nobel prizes. Brazil, China and Japan don’t eat a lot of chocolate and don't receive a lot of Nobel prizes.
