xxx THE KISS xxx Can you remember your first kiss or even your last kiss? What was your best kiss? Have you had a good kiss from joining this site? What were they like? Below is a picture of Rodin's famous The Kiss statue:  Tonight we were talking about kissing and we moved to deciding the best kisses that have been filmed, whether in a film (or a movie for our American friends), in a photograph, or on television. This ruled out the kiss to Jesus from Judas after betraying him, as well as the alleged kiss from Hardy to Admiral Nelson as he lay dying during the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar. The kiss to Sleeping Beauty in Charles Perrault’s 1697 La Belle au Bois Dormant book is far better than the screened versions. The first screened kiss was by John C Rice and Mary Irwin in the 1896 film, The Kiss. Though interesting, the kiss was only a peck. The first open-mouthed (or French) kiss was in the 1926 film, Flesh and the Devil. The first inter-racial screened kiss between Harry Belafonte and Joan Fontaine in the 1957 film, Island in the Sun, provoked considerable controversy. Back to our favourite top ten filmed kisses, we discussed but eventually ruled out the contrived kiss between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the Titanic film, as well as the predictable kisses between Colin Firth/Renee Zellweger kiss in Bridget Jones’ Diary and the Keira Knightley/Mr Darcy kiss in Pride and Prejudice. We talked about the MTV kiss between Madonna and Britney Spears but we were not convinced. Inside are our top ten kisses in descending order. Have we missed a memorable kiss? NUMBER 3 Though it came later than the Peter Finch/Murray Head kiss, the kiss between Tony Currie and Alan Birchenall reached a wider and mainly male audience. Their kiss was at a 1975 football (or soccer, if American) game between Sheffield United and Leicester City. They decided to kiss after a tussle rather than swear or fight, [image] Tony Currie and Alan Birchenall repeat their kiss each year. Birchenall, when asked about his worst football moment, said: “Kissing Tony Currie.... Every year we have to re-enact the kiss and gets uglier by the year.” Tony Currie went on to play for the mighty Leeds United!”

NUMBER 1 The 1994 Brookside kiss: [image] This was the first lesbian kiss shown in the UK before the 9pm watershed time in a Channel 4 soap opera. Before the 9pm watershed time is when UK authorities deem television to be safe for children to watch. The kiss was between the Brookside characters, Beth Jordache (Anna Friel) and Margaret Clemence (Nicola Stephenson). This kiss was screened at the London Olympics Opening Ceremony to signify an inclusive country.
