At the Comfort Inn Downtown in Cleveland (then called Swingos Celebrity Inn), Elvis Presley booked more than 100 rooms and checked out with a $20,000 bill. Mott the Hoople's Ian Hunter once said of this hotel, "Swingos was a place you remember checking in and out of, but you can't remember anything in between."



The keys of Swingos hotel bedrooms are now collector's items - there is a photo of a key within.

Billy Idol checked into the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok, with several prostitutes in tow. Under the influence of drugs, he trashed the hotel room and refused to leave when asked by hotel staff. The Thai army were then called and they shot him with tranquiliser darts and stretchered him out of the hotel.

Robert Plant dropped televisions and bottles of champagne from the sixth floor of the Andaz West Hollywood hotel in Los Angeles. He also rode motorbikes in the hotel's hallways.

Johnny Depp and Kate Moss had a champagne bath in The Portobello hotel in London.

Oscar Wilde spent his last days at L'Hotel in Paris, supposedly prompting his deathbed utterance, "My wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death."

John Lennon and Yoko Ono had their famous bed-in and recorded Give Peace A Chance in a room, now called the John Lennon and Yoko Ono Suite, in the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montreal.

Gram Parsons, once of The Byrds, overdosed on a heroin-and-cocaine speedball in The Joshua Tree Inn in California. As his dead body was on its way to a nearby airport, his manager stole a hearse to drive it back to the hotel. His body was then burnt in the desert near the hotel.

Courtney Love once gave an interview to reporters totally naked in her hotel room at the Sunset Marquis in California.

Nicky Haslam once said of Bryan Ferry, when on tour, that he was more likely to redecorate a hotel room than smash it up.
