Blogs and groups now have customizable background colors!

Customize the look of your blogs and groups by changing your background colors. Click on the "Colors" link and try it out (you can always return your blog to default colors). You should be able to color individual posts as well.

Have fun!

Well... the developers were working on a new site this past release so I was left alone to push out a new "tweak" feature this release. Hopefully, we'll have a full team back here soon.

Do you think maybe later the default size of font used can be changed too?

Andrew replies on 12/15/2006 11:51 pm:
Hmmm... most browsers set the default font size (e.g., older members often increase the default font size). You can adjust the font size in your individual posts... but not globally.

Also, I have just posted this in my Blog for those that do not know the "RGB" colors codes, they can be typed in to the new addition to easily edit the colors instead of searching the color palete.

The New Color TableColor NameRGBHex

I have another request... any possible way to fix this site so that when you google someones handle, that their profile and every post they've ever done on here doesn't show up in the search results????? That would be a terrific upgrade to have some privacy within the confines of the site!

Thanks!

Andrew replies on 12/15/2006 11:39 pm:
Yes, I know that setting blogs to be readable by member's only is in progress. If I get some time this weekend, I'll see about adding it.

Ewwww Andrew don't really like the new changes. I would have liked to have seen a way to add graphics in the body of the post instead of the little window we have now. Can I put that on my wish list please???

Juicy

Andrew replies on 12/15/2006 11:43 pm:
I assume you mean add background graphics instead/in addition to the background colors. Or are you referring being able to post a graphic in a reply to a blog post?

It is nice to have the option, but my first profile, and all the blog entries/comments I made were wiped out when I turned my profile off temporarily. I wrote customer service more than once, since I had some really good entries there and never heard from them, nor do I exist with the old name. I did rejoin, as a standard member, and certainly glad that I decided to remain a standard member, since your customer service appears to be less than stellar.

Andrew replies on 12/15/2006 11:45 pm:
Let me know what your previous account handle was and I can see about copying over your old blog to your new handle and turn on all your old posts. Actually, your posts should not been wiped out but made invisible until you turn your old profile back on.

as long as we're trying to help members find their way in this new land of colors ....

blogging 106 colors in both available formats

~ off to get sum shadez.... ~

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 12:36 am:
Thanks Goddess! Hopefully the color picker will help - it takes a while to figure out which colors are for what. Only suggest people choose lighter colors so the text is more readable.

Only one thing I would like to address here is that this is not quite so "user friendly" in defining the area that color changes can be made.

I did a little more work here to trying to help the Bloggers to knowing the table and cell areas that colors are being changed when selected.

This is what I came up with below:
Primary TableThis will set the color of the background color to the table with the Calendar, Recent Visitors, People who like this blog, also like, Most Recent Comments by Others, Most Recent Comments by your own that is on the right side of your Blog Home Page.
Row 1 This will set the background color of your first Topic Posting on your Blog Home Page and then the Topic Post after the next. Row 1 and Row 2 are alternating Topic Posting background colors. In addition, your commenter of your Topic will show as the Background Color used on the home page of your Blog of Row 1.
Row 2This will set the background color of your second Topic Posting on your Blog Home Page and then the Topic Post after the next. Row 1 and Row 2 are alternating colors. In addition, your commenter of your Topic will show as the Background Color used on the home page of your Blog of Row 1.

Secondary Table This will set the color to your Blog Description (Introduction), in addition, when opening a Topic Post of yours, this color will be the background color of your Topic Posting. The background colors you have chosen in Row 1 and 2 in the Primary Table are not used when opening a Topic posting.
Row 1This will set the color of the first row background color to the table with the Calendar, Recent Visitors, People who like this blog, also like, Most Recent Comments by Others, Most Recent Comments by your own that is on the right side of your Blog Home Page.
Row 2This will set the color of the second row background color to the table with the Calendar, Recent Visitors, People who like this blog, also like, Most Recent Comments by Others, Most Recent Comments by your own that is on the right side of your Blog Home Page.
This portion of this posting is in my Blog for those that wish to have it for future reference or to share it with other Bloggers. How the Colors are Defined to the Tables

Cool - I'll show this to the HTML person who setup the page. I'm sure we could do better than the current implementation

Luvpump...cool feature but why not add this and all other font, bg color, and text enhancements, etc... into the bar below, under the comments section? It would make things alot easier for the blogger to be able to just click and go! Instead of cruising all over for all the seperate commands? just a small suggestion

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 9:55 am:
Yes, I was thinking of allowing people to create their own color palletes (sets of colors) so they could select them from a list. Also, didn't want to get TOO many options in one form as it confuses newbies.

NOOO add graphics in your post in the body of it. I know about the comments and adding graphics but in the body of the post. Like if I where telling a story and wanted to add something like this [image]

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 9:59 am:
Hmmm... now I'm confiused. You just uploaded one. If you don't like it in the end of the post, you can put \[image\] where you want it to go.

Ya know what, I am clueless yet I managed to work it out. I just want to say thanks, we don't need complicated instructions now that we can just pick them. I had about three go's and came up with my colour scheme, no hard work required

Here is an idea about graphics added. How about textures or image backgrounds? Like wallpapers used; i.e. Marble, Bubbles, Feather etc... and maybe custom ones that members can upload too. Talk about some "Pimped up Blogs" if that was made available.

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 10:10 am:
That's where I'm headed in the background department... just will take a bit more time to implement (and I'm sure others have other priorities). I try to roll out something new every once in a while

When this first was 100% live last night, we were able to manually set the RGB codes by typing them in the text boxes. Has this changed for some reason?

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 4:46 pm:
I didn't know that anything changed. You can set the rgb values after you click the box to the left of the table rows.

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 4:49 pm:
I'm easily confused - one the issues I deal with

You can put a photo when you create a new thread and put it anywhere in your post. Are you looking to be able to upload more than one photo?

I found the problem I was having and also possibly a few other members.

Entering the RGB Color Codes manually works only in Mozilla Firefox; however, entering the RGB Color Codes manually in IE6 the color codes are not changed or saved by entering them manually. I have not tested this on IE7 or Opera as of yet. I will later though

Thanks Andrew,
Nick

Thank you for this cool feature, and thanks to SensuallyKatey for explaining how to use it!

Reading blogs with different color schemes will be nice. I'm sure somebody will set text/background combinations with too little contrast. But when I find one, I'll highlight the text and read it that way.

Andrew,

This may seem off topic but it is not.

There are members feeling that the groups are suffering in activity because of the Blog sections, an idea of one of my members of my group was that it would be nice if the members in groups could also add a photo to the side of topic postings as done in the Blog section. I just wanted to pass this on, as I do agree with him since those photos can help increase the activity in the groups with its members.

Nick

Andrew replies on 12/18/2006 12:51 pm:
Hmmm... am I missing things? I added photo uploads to both topic threads and comments in groups - are they not live to you? (sometimes things are visible only to people at the office).
