Temporary rollback

As you might have noticed, we had to revert back to the older version of groups and friends network as the software over-powered the 2000 computers that run this site. We will work hard today to address the issues and hopefully upgrade it again as soon as possible. Just the fact that the software was up for many hours means that we are close

Gosh, it sure was fun while it lasted. Hope you can get it all going back again. The Smileys were great in the Groups.

received a few "weird" things during the last couple days, but figure it's all in a day's troubleshooting for the team. Seems like most of the delays, photos and groups things have been addressed.

Just happy to hear about the "information" and what's doing. I think that it's awesome of YOU to take the time to inform us.

All things considered, we've seen worse and this is far better

Thanks a bunch!

Mr. CEO,
I think it would be worth while to develop a BETA test system. It would appear alpha testing is rather poor, and then it goes live, frequently with disasterous side effects. Like winding up logged into someone else's account, possibly a paid one, and with personal info (email addr) readily available?!? I'm sorry, but that's a HUGE legal liability and should be given top priority. Not a good way to run a company in my opinion. These things should be tested better before final release. A dedicated group of member beta testers seems the logical compromise to me.

oh come on Vamp, you know that would require separate servers and would be way too expensive. (you been getting a bad blood supply?)

why is it that when you try to change your groups picture (the one in the description) you have to delete the old one first and then wait however long and then go back and upload the new one?

Andrew....I see that at least some of the updates are back in...my friends are back in line and my custom photo categories are now correctly assigned with my friends.

Good job with the updates from one IT person to another.

Here is a classic example am logged in as redrobin, check a few group postings that I belong to ,then BAM...I am in a male's profile.I hate to know who has accessed mine as a silver member who knows what can happen.

Robin

(but it will probable show as a man)

Dear Ron: I told you so. In my opinion, if it takes money to make a seperate mini server farm strictly for test purposes, then dammit, do so. There are plenty of other ways too. But this fiasco with people hopping into others' accounts will wind up being far more costly if it continues. The illegality of it is fairly clear. My blood supply is fine. I have to wonder about luvpump's blood pressure tho. Fix this now.

btw, yet another instance: [group_post 903669]

Andrew replies on 5/19/2006 3:30 am:
Yes, what happened is that the page with 30 or so members of a group gets cached every 3 hours - unfortunately, the developer messed up and make it save who the unlucky member was who caused the page to be cached would have his links in the page. We figured it out pretty quickly and updated it.

Springsluvr 68F

It's happening to anyone. All you have to do is go to someone's blog, then back out and you end up in someone else's account, with full access. God knows how many people have looked through my account, how many people have had their passwords changed so that they can no longer access their own accounts, how many people have had postings made in Groups as them when in actual fact, it is someone who just magically found themselves logged in under a different name. This is a very serious breach of security, and no one seems to be taking it seriously. I notive that Sir Luvpump has not responded to a single one of these postings either. Is he busy trying to get this fixed? Or avoiding the issue?

People. Take a happy pill and chill. We asked him to fix the lag. He came back and said he was going to add bells and whistles. We all like the bells and whistles and he has addressed the lag. These are major changes.

Yep, things got fucked up. But, they are working on it.

You people keep looking for reasons to bitch.

Shelly_Marie 51F

5/18/2006 12:29 pm

I am sure he is trying to fix it. I dont think they would go and just let that go, they arent that dumb...lol. your passwords and such are hidden by asteriks, also.

Shelly_Marie 51F

5/18/2006 2:37 pm

yeah, looks like they might have fixed it, I have clicked on several things and havent had that happen so far. I think it might have happened to me yesterday and i didnt realize it at the time, cause as soon as i clicked i went to passion instead of Affairlook.com and wasnt sure what was going on and havent had that happen today though...

I too believe that a few of you people do need to chill out some , As JustRon9000 said "We asked him to fix the lag. He came back and said he was going to add bells and whistles. We all like the bells and whistles and he has addressed the lag. These are major changes."

Feedback - rollback this is a posting in The Likeminded Ones Group with opinion and suggestions You may want to read it Andrew as food for thought. there are members in LMO that have strong programming backgrounds or knowledge of programming that are willing to help and not asking for anything in return (I am sure within other realms of this site too.)

Andrew replies on 5/19/2006 3:32 am:
Thanks - yes, it was hard to pre-debug the caching bug as the QA team were always logged in as their own accounts and didn't test viewing the page from a second account.

Ron, how in the HELL does people having access to others' personal information and accounts amount to "looking for reasons to bitch"?? That is one of the most thoughtless, supercilious statements I have ever read on this site.

I REPEAT: THIS IS NO LONGER ABOUT LITTLE UPGRADES AND BUGS. THIS IS ABOUT GROSS NEGLIGENCE AND A SERIOUS BREACH OF TRUST, INSTEAD.

I wonder how smart-aleck you'll be if it turns out someone who got access to YOUR information due to Affairlook's incompetence does you some harm? HMMMM??

NICK--The same goes for you, too, except I will add this: I have seen you post much more critically of Andrew and this site elsewhere--why don't you do it in Andrew's blog, too?
oh c'mon. i put a lot of thought in to all of my statements.

Has any harm come to you Wistful?

Do you think that my account has not been gone in to also? It has by few other members with moderator transfer.

Now tell me where I "criticized" or insulted the site after all the updates and upgrades started.

If I recall Wistful, you went around and posted in groups and the magazine suggesting that premium members strike against the site and cancel their premium services to hurt it financially to get things improved. You know that is really a logical (not) to financially damage any business with knowing it takes money to improve upon a business; furthermore, who was it that was against your proposed member strike in the Rant and Raves before Andrew started his Blog and made it aware that he was going to work on improving the site?

What many members including myself did was circulate a member petition letter asking for improvements; one of the petitions was 3/4 composed by me.

So please get your facts right Wistful. Simple fact is that I been in support of this site in many ways for many years, from letting other members (new) know that this site does work in finding what they may be looking for (Just Sex to LTR's) to being one of the members interviewed by WSJ Online a few months ago.

I might complain about the bugs, but I have never insulted this site, the CEO, programmers or Staff of it.

Nick

If you people don't get the difference between little annoying site bugs and the major mistake of allowing people access to the accounts of other members, I am sad for you.

Has any harm come to me? How do I know that yet? How does anyone know at this time?

Nick, I did not say you insulted the CEO, but the link you provided to your group in this blog does show some thoughtful criticism, instead of the pablum you've posted here.

Moon, I have every right to state my opinions. If I DO leave, it won't be because someone like you tells me to do so.

Quite frankly, people, I find it pathetically amusing how you continue to kiss this man's ass in spite of the rampant incompetence and outright gross negligence this most recent, and VERY SERIOUS, breach of trust has shown.

No, I don't care much for hypocrisy...
"Nick, I did not say you insulted the CEO, but the link you provided to your group in this blog does show some thoughtful criticism, instead of the pablum you've posted here."

And just exactly what were my words in my previous 2 postings where I posted the link Wistful?

"Thoughtful Criticism" can produce "constructive" ideas and suggestions.

End of correspondence and all replies with my name attached to postings here

Nick

moon, that happened to me a couple of years ago, and they took care of it then too. I thought it was a hacker or something cause I never clicked on anything in that page recently.

I deleted that bank acct that got charged and put a block on it too, and also deleted that profile so that all of that info was not out for everyone to see. So I knew no one was going to be able to do anything else with it. If this site were trying to rip people off then it wouldnt be this big of a site and probably wouldnt be here. But I also havent purchased anything else from this site to avoid future problems, but just for the record, they did advise me to delete that profile and make a new one and they were willing to give me a full refund right away with no questions asked.

My group of The Likeminded Ones was put in denied status at around 3:55am EST and had the following message that only a moderator of the group can read.

"Your group's description has been denied due to the following reason: You included a phone number. Please update your group's description to get it re-reviewed."

In my group description there is no phone numbers (or any contact info such as email addresses) and no postings in my group contains any phone numbers or email addresses.

I have emailed the abuse team in regards to this as it is clear that it is an abuse of the "Request Review" link done by a member\members.

If a member is going to "Request" a Review of a group, the member should have to give reason for requesting that review to the Abuse Team (a mail form should be presented to the clicker to fill out) and not be able to just click on "Request Review" to have a group placed in Denied for personal reasons.

A "Review" should be done by the Abuse Team, since that is what a member is "Requesting" from the Abuse Team; to investigate any violations of Terms of Use.

There are members on this site that use the "Request Review" to try and cause mental abuse towards Moderators and Members of groups for personal reasons of dislikes or conflicts they have for members or that\those groups.

Nick

I had that message too once. I just clicked update again and it went away. I figured it was just something new that Affairlook added.
