Improvements are coming

Just curious if anyone still tracks my blog. If so, feel free to email me suggestions and feedback on things you're like to see improved.

Message center and profile messaging now re-supports bling and other links. See comments below for more upcoming projects (about 50 different pages/functionality will be improved in next few weeks).

Hello

Well that is a bit of good news at least !

Improvements.... How long have you got ??? Seriously, there is a lot that could realistically be done within the practical (infrastructure) and financial constraints present.

Apart from the obvious technical issues, you have an enormous problem with P.R., the credibility of the site and it's ownrs is at an all time low. The perception is that the company does not give a flying fuck about its long term members and seems to have little interest in retaining them, these people provide the good profiles, the blogs, the cam shows... the entertainment which leads others to sign up and/or go Gold.

The communication channels here are woefully inadequate. Resulting internally in left hand not knowing what right hand doing, suggesting internal corporate structure needs reviewing/restructuring. In addition the flow of information to the membership is dreadful... Aryana does a good job but is over-run, it is not possible to do that Community/Events/PR function with current staffing levels, and due to the terrible P.R. position that function (which was a great idea on inception) is vital at this time in particular.

Given the situation with the site's technical infrastructure which makes it impossible in the short term to deliver a reliable product (site) one must look at the bigger picture. Give the staff you have in Community the resources they need to perform their function effectively, and improve the P.R. situation, regain at least some credibility with members/customers, improve communication/feedback flow, thereby improving the general mood here with both members and staff.

Allow as much time as possible for testing before new features go live, this is a major source of frustration and complaint. I realise there is pressure to go live asap, but the balance of that need with the need to provide a credible site and retain customers should be looked at seriously.

Provide a TOTAL BLOCK BUTTON (I can't see you / you can't see me) Giving members (primarily women) the power to protect themselves from abuse, and much more control over their user experience. In addition to benefiting members I believe this would also prove cost effective in time saved on Customer Support staff time spent dealing with abuse related issues which are always going to be a problem on a site of this nature.

There are many things that could and should be done that are within practical and cost considerations. It would take too long to list and explain. One would need to be convinced that there was some point to the exercise before undertaking such an onerous task as to list all the possible improvements/fixes needed. However the information is available via Aryana and a number of highly experienced members who really do understand the site and would be prepared to put in the time to help out if they felt there was any point.

This site has a unique position in the marketplace I believe, which can be built on and expanded. But at this time the perception of the vast majority of long-term members is that it is going downhill fast. Rapid and effective action is needed in order to maintain the loyal customer base that give this place its foundation in terms of community activity, the thing that is this site's USP. I hope that someone in authority will recognise the position we are in and take the bull by the horns and be pro-active in carrying out a review and implementation of findings.

The picture you receive is most likely distorted out of any reality of what is actually going on here. Things are dire. P.R. is at an all time low. Long term members are sick of it.

If you are serious then let's talk about it seriously and constructively, but we need to see some results or we will think you just ask for feedback and no notice whatsoever, and have no conception of what the situation is really like here.

Are you up for the challenge of putting things right here ???

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! As you might know, for the last 5 years, I have not been involved in the management of the company. I too have had to watch the site take it's course - often in directions that were in conflict with my original vision. Recently, I decided to come back for a bit and help improve the experiences. While I have been back a bit over a week, I am encouraged by the company's recent willingness to take my advice to improve many of the site's atrophied features. I have documented about 40 pages of development suggestions and will help with the execution per management approval. I look forward to the upcoming weeks as there will be many improvements.

that's great!
Hope some other changes in the message center soon too...
I prefer some subject lines and so on, and ability to use real folders...

Welcome back

Andrew replies on 2/23/2013 10:02 am:
The message center is being updated in a series of improvements. While subject lines may not be in the first iteration, will keep it in mind. In general, subject lines have been phased out of many social sites as the formality of having a subject and a body reduces the immediacy of communication. I like subjects but realize that times do change.

Bring back Customer Services to the States instead of outsourcing the department to some obscure outfit in Asia and employ proficient staff. That would be a step towards the positive in the long run. Even in these times, people will pay for quality service.

you were so far ahead of your time to create this site, i wish you wouldnt have sold it..what i would like to see is the site not pimp you out to other sites that are NOT what is in your profile, for example lesbians dot whatevem when i am strictly dickly, swinger sites, i am not a swinger i am a "serial dater" couple sites when i am one..little things like that annoy me because when you get an email you dont know what site they are coming from..and the senior sizzle thing has to go welcome back

je ne regrette rien

Andrew replies on 2/23/2013 4:45 pm:
Nice to see you! The good news is that no user data ever leaves the company's servers. There are a few synonyms used for Affairlook domain and there appears to be a trend of the company to consolidate them over the last 12 months or so.

Long time no see, Andrew. You probably do not remember me when you had the site improvement project going on.

Anyway....

You want feedback....ok...although it seems that the current ownership and management does not bother really listening to the members.

First off...this site has gone totally downhill since Penthouse took over. Activity level in all forums (Chat, Magazine, Groups, Blogs, etc...) is down approximately 1/3 of what it was 5 years ago. The site may have gained in membership numbers, however, that does not mean a site is successful if the members are not active.

1- I am sure you, remember how the members had control over their profile by ways of giving it personality and expressions with customizing (Pimping) the backgrounds with Color and Blings. That is something members have no longer; furthermore, many of the members left because of removal of that feature.

2- Many members left due to the Kudo's removal.

3- Many members have and are leaving due to the long posting approvals within the Blogs, Groups and Magazine sections.

4- Many members are leaving due to the constant Bugs within the Blogs. Example, Members showing up as top Bloggers in other countries then their own. And members that use the tables for their Blog postings with the table width declared is distorting the appearance of their postings on their Blog main page.

5- Many members do not want their activity on the site live stream feed on the site home page for all members to knowing and seeing. That takes away from our privacy. Example, Member uploads a video or new photo it is plastered for all members to viewing.

There are many many more things that are and is interfering with the members activity on this site due to all the new redesign of it.

I am not here to say changes are not a good thing; however, at times changes can be detrimental.

On a personal note....want to say thank you, for the years that you were at the helm of this site when I first joined it in 1996. But now with all the changes that Penthouse has done, this coming March I will no longer use or visit this site.

Andrew replies on 2/23/2013 4:52 pm:
Thanks for the great feedback! Many of the bullets you list are things in my immediate cross hairs. Please hang in for at least another month as the improvements will take a few weeks to start appearing. Can you email me an example of blog table issues and well as country issues in top blog lists (I don't think that we used to have a country filter on them).

Since yesterday, after I checked on and read this post of yours about bling and other links added to the new message center, I was going to post a couple of bling to groups I was in, I was unable to add bling using the bling button to post,I clicked on the bling I want to add on the open window of bling and it will not add. So I end up typing each of them the bling code. I tried today, it still not working. Hope to add bling using the bling button on blog and group be fix soon. Thank you.

Andrew replies on 2/24/2013 11:21 am:
Grrrr... I see it too. Looks as if might be related to developers putting the bling back on the Message Center. I will contact the developer today to restore this on groups/blogs/etc. Sigh

I haven't been a member for very long, and I certainly don't know the ins and outs like others do.

But, I loved being here till all the changes came about; the customer was screwed over by the management, so to speak! A lot of us deal with that in our paycheck jobs - why would we want to get that from someone we are paying? This place is supposed to be fun, not frustrating!

One thing that has bothered the heck out of me is having no middle grade of membership, i.e. the former silver membership. The new silver is free, but the price is you must have a picture posted, which I will not do, and that Affairlook takes over sending your stuff out to other members that are deemed to be of interest to you. Uh...no.

Bring back a silver membership like it used to be, and in these economic times, offer a month-to-month payment instead of taking that whole membership out at once. Much easier to fit into a lot of budgets, and while it's a pain for the site's bookkeeping, I'm sure, in the computer age it must be something that COULD be done for the customer's sake!

BTW, I've never met you, and only know about you because I read it on another blog, but let me join the others in saying "welcome back" It seems your presence is sorely needed!

Andrew replies on 2/24/2013 2:10 pm:
I was not involved with the changes to membership levels. I've emailed the person who did it to get feedback... I am a believe in the dual premium membership level as it give win-win to different needs.

I'm working to merge some of the better elements of the old and new home page. I think the new home page can be salvaged. Hopefully, will have an update later this week or early next. The Message Center is also begin worked on this week. My goal is to first try to upgrade it to par with the old version. I think it is possible. The first part is to fix the folder issue.

I just realized something that was missing in the new message center. When you write a message, there is no way to bold, italicize or underline what you are writing.

I think that's a good feature as those option can be used to improve readability of a message.

Andrew replies on 2/26/2013 1:57 pm:

Fair fa' yer honest sonsie face Andrew. I never knew you before, but you seem to be held in high regard. I hope your return makes a difference and reinvigorates the community.

There are so many bugs and glitches that I'd be reluctant to pay until the vast majority are resolved. I was a paying member for a few years and enjoyed the site, but coupled with all the issues it has lost some of its lustre unfortunately.

I think the comments from McSprirt and McRammy summarise my position fairly well, so I won't add to your list un-necessarily. The one thing I would nevertheless add is a request to remove the 'most popular' lists from the blog home page, or at least find a way of revolving the names at the top of the ladies list to give more people well-deserved exposure, and to reduce the insane drama which seems to engulf the blogging community at times. If there are sound commercial reasons for leaving it there, fair enough, but I'm struggling to see how the list enhances things enough to encourage more people to pay?

I wish you well, and thank you in advance for all of your efforts.

The skirted one is correct ! I wholeheartedly agree that the blog chart on the blog main page should be abolished permanently !

It serves no good purpose to any members but the few involved in the bitchfest up there and their hangers-on. The fallout from 'blog wars' seriously affects the mood of blogland and is nothing but a disruptive influence on a regular repeated basis, otherwise we could all just ignore it, but the 'shouting' is sooo loud, and the intensity so out of proportion to any realm of sanity that it is impossible to avoid being AFFected !

The time taken by your staff 'refereeing' this nonsense must be a burden, pulling abuse staff away from issues of real importance (bullying/threats/stalking etc) It is a nonsense that any time should be taken up by a few desperate attention seekers on a supposedly 'adult' site to the detriment of legitimate issues which are often paid little attention.

I understand the need from the company's point of view to have 'active' and visually attractive blogs on the front page for promotional purposes, to showcase the best of blogland to newbies. The answer to this would be to rotate say the top 30/40/50 blogs but not in chart form in numerical order. This would still act as a good showcase, the same blogs would appear on the front page, just not in a 'top of the pops' format. That way more good blogs get exposure, diversity of the blogs is better showcased, major 'blog wars' are reduced substantially and perhaps eliminated. I'm sure there would be loud disagreement to this proposal, but I would anticipate only from a handful of people who are obsessed with such crap, who make a lot of noise but do not represent the majority here !

The same applies to the new homepage. Only two blogs are displayed now, and they will never change whilst they are the only ones in such a prominent position, so looks completely stagnant and offers no diversity to new viewers at their first port of call. The answer once again is rotation of what appears (as we have with the three blogs at the top of blog main page).

Number counts can be retained so members can see their own totals, they could also be displayed on members blogs for others to see. BUT NOT IN 'CHART' FORM WHICH ENCOURAGES 'COMPETITIVE BLOGGING' AND ALL THAT GOES WITH IT !!

Are you referring to the 3 sample blogs at the top right of the page? I kind of forget what the algorithm I used there... I think it's related to blogs that have a threshold of posts recently and have a user photo. Do people really have drama for how they get in that?

The simple issue with the site is the same as it always has been. Both various and Penthouse made the same mistakes - looking for constant superficial appearance improvements over service and functionality issues. The new home page is a perfect example. Why? It is not an "improvement" it is simply a change. Another example, after promoting blogs and bling for years, they disappeared from the home page in another attempt at superficial appearance issues rather than leaving that decision to the member (i.e. set the programming to allow US what links we want on our home page).

And of course, the greatest problem continues to be the obviously fake, trolling profiles. On OTHER social media sites, these are not as offensive b/c no claim of having to "approve" a profile is made. Here, where there are allegedly standards to be met, to continuously see profiles with stolen pics of high profile pornstars, open advertisements for prostitution, etc, is really just pathetic.

Come check out The Social Contract. A little brain food!!

Hello Andrew, nice to meet you!

I don't know how long I have been a Standard Member, but it has been for quite some time. I certainly understand the limitations of being a Standard Member and appreciate the liberties you have given to us Standards.

Towards the end of January, I noticed that I could no longer open albums that people in my Friends List have to offer. Instead I was re-directed to your signup page. Not knowing what was going on, I posed the question to your Site Support Blog page:

"Hi guys, I thought I would wait till the first of February to ask this question for others to view your answer:

Why cant I view the pictures/albums from the sexy folks in my Friends List now? As a Standard Member, I can understand not having the capability of seeing other profiles and their albums, but my friends have put their faith in letting me view their pictures. Is this another bug, or is this another taunt for me to become a paying member?"

Mind you, I'm not really bitching about the inability to view the pics my friends have allowed me to see (some friends albums were 5 or more years old)....but what I am bitching about was that I was given a Bug Number! Check out my next posting:

Well hotmama159, when I first posted this question, I was given a bug # 11389. It seems that this is not a programming issue, but a policy change. Boo on the executives at Affairlook for trying to grab pennies and nickels and poor Blake and Jeremy for the ducking and dodging they have to endure daily for poor decision making and programming errors. These postings can still be found on the Customers Questions and Answers February 2013. Whats ironic is that the replies have since been removed.

This example plainly shows that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. As can be expected, I am sure there is always a deluge of questions and problems that your Site Support Team has to deal with. I have seen a number of members complain about taking a long time to answer, but the bitching grows louder where there is an incomplete or incorrect answer.

So, welcome back! Your creative side must have gotten skinny and it's a good thing because your plate is gonna be full for a long time!!

I've not talked to you before so really hope some of this feedback will be taken on board and implemented into the site. I've been here since 2008 and have seen lots of site changes during that time that the loyal long term membership base has been opposed to. Despite very vocal opposition to these changes on site support blog, community blog, Live from Affairlook group and individual emails of complaint to customer services, it seems the people who run this site really don't care what the members think or want, and will just push through their changes anyway.
THIS ATTITUDE REALLY HAS TO CHANGE!
The only way the site will retain memberships is to provide good customer service and give customer satisfaction.
Here are a list of things that have been taken away from the members that i'd like to see return, and i know many other members also want returned to the site.

1. Please bring back the option of having profile background bling.
All this sea of white backgrounds everywhere makes the site look really dull and boring, members should have the option how they want their own profile to look.

2.Bring back the Kudos feature.

3.Do something about the huge amount of fake and scam profiles that are approved onto the site. Many members are sick to death of seeing profile pics of porn stars, celebrities, well known famous people, etc, it really is rediculous!
Why should members have to police the site, by using Tineye or google images, the site should be checking these photos during the profile review process, and thus rejecting these profiles before they gain access to the site pages.

4.Some of the groups are taking ages to load up, so long in fact that internet explorer sometimes times out.
Here are some examples just click on the links yourself and see how long they take to load.
The Sheep Appreciation Society
Pandora's Box
Sanctuary
I complained about this on site support some weeks ago and was given this bug number for the problem.....
Bug #CD-11452
Can you give me an update on if this Bug has been fixed or not?
These and many other groups are still taking ages to load, and group activity has dropped dramatically over the last few months because of this problem. Members who have slower internet connection speeds cannot get into the groups at all because of the long loading times.

5.Please bring back the old message centre, no one seems to like the new one and the old one worked perfectly well so why did the site think it was a good idea to change it??????

As Spirit said the P.R of the site is at an all time low, so good luck, you certainly have a big job on your hands to improve things round here!
My gold membership is due to expire soon, i'm really not sure i'll bother to renew it the way things are around here at the moment.
This site should be fun like it was when i joined in 2008. All it seems to do now is annoy me, really not worth the money for the premium membership.

and.............WARNING for Porn viewers

I wonder if you could do some thing to this issue I am going to explain.

Before the site change the blog homepage to a bit of a different look,I was able to see the page number on my blog homepage no matter what bling background I use. The page number was in a white box like the link to my blog as show in the screen shot. When the site make changes, the box where the page numbers was removed. Since then I had problem to see my blog page number because I always use bling for the background. I had mentioned before to Ryan who was community username then. But nothing had been done. I wonder if you could do some thing about it. Thank you.

Here is the of the screen shot of my Blog homepage bottom left with a bling background pointing to the area where my blog page numbering is.
