Made it easier to vote on posts For those blogs who elected to let members post votes on each comment, we made it easier for people to vote. Before, the voter caused the entire page to reload for each vote. One of our new HTML people figured out a way to make the votes happen "instantly" and show up without reloading the page. We look forward to applying similar technology around the site where it improves the experience. This change is across blogs, groups, and magazine advice lines and articles. Hopefully, this will also speed up the sites as pages don't need to reload. |

This sounds promising. Anything to lighten the load has got to be a good thing. (Another good thing is that your HR department is doing a good job too...)  Blog On!

Oh cool. Thanks boss! And speaking of reloading... Have you looked into the possibility of periodically reloading the "slot machine" picyures? say every 5 minutes or so. It'd be cool if you could and not put unnecessary stress on the system fetching the images.

I just have a question, and as many times before, many people have asked the same question, but I am the only one who will say it: I know you are the CEO and all, and you are actually an honarary member here in Blogland, but do you think it is justified that you are up on the most watched blog lists? Just curious, and not alone. I have no evil will here, just a simple question. Thanks a million.

Yes I noticed that, I suppose you have your reason's for it however since you mentioned it I'm going to comment on my thoughts on voting. Do you have any idea the hostility that has been created in regards to voting between members? I use the magazine far more then the blogs, but I do enjoy both. However quite frankly this voting issue is the biggest drawback that I find to getting any kind of actual enjoyment from it. If someone does not like what you have said, a multi profiler will spam everything you have said with negative votes. If someone is hell bent on being on that quite frankly useless most respected responder list, they then create multi profiles just to vote agree on themselves. And if you think it does not happen, think again. Those who use the magazine have seen it time and time again. When you have entered a response, and it ends up on the second page of a post, and you have said the exact same thing other's have, but end up with 8 negative votes, that's someone playing a game. So you know what? This whole voting thing, is nothing but a tool for those on here hell bent to create havoc and discord. If you insist on having voting on an opinion, then take away the neutral and negative option and leave the agree. The voting should not be used to discount an OPINION, but that is exactly what happens. Everyone's opinion based on their personal experiences are valid, if I am to disagree with one that is offered, then instead of hiding behind a mouse click I should have to voice it, but because of how this system is set up, it leaves the visual effect that what one says is not valid. Time and time again I have seen this happen to people, good responders who get tired of having what they say, be spammed by the immature who run around this site. For that reason I do not have voting set up in my blog, I will never allow one person's thoughts, opinion's or view point to be discounted and therefore invalidated by a mouse click. I think it's great all of the time and effort and expense that you are putting into your site. However if you really wanted to make the use of this site that much more enjoyable, then do away with the popularity contests, they serve no purpose other then to build hostility. As well they are far to easily manipulated at least as far as the magazine is concerned, to make something like the most respected responders mean nothing. To the regulars who use the magazine that list is a joke, which we frequently point out to everyone who asks. I can go on there, post one line responses to every question that comes up and with 24 hours be sitting at that top of that list, I've seen people do it. I myself don't really care, I'm tough enough to deal with the ensuing fallout of what I say, and I have had my own little negative stalker for months now. But I have never appreciated how it's used to visually discount an opinion that someone dislikes, instead of being an adult and opening up the debate, that does nothing to further to expand on an issue. Just my opinion on all of this, since you opened the door to it. If you feel this is not an appropriate place for these comments, it will not bother me for you to delete them. However I would at least hope that you look into this issue further, and ask the members how they feel about the issue, and try and get some feedback from the people who use the site. In case your wondering yes I am very vocal where I see constant unfairness being dumped on people just because they have a different viewpoint. Everyone is allowed to express their views, and should not fear having their views discounted just because someone has taken a dislike to them. Let a true debate happen without the worry of "fitting in with the crowd", that will allow actual dialog on issues, dialog from all sides and all people. Sultry
