Folders are now back in your Message Center

Folders are now back in your Message Center

Today we've gone live with some changes to the Message Center.

Some changes you will see:

1. Members can not delete individual messages within a conversation. Previously, a user could only delete the entire thread. To delete one at a time, hover over the message in particular and click the 'delete' box.

2. Folders are also back to the Message Center. Like labels, you can sort your messages as you choose. However, moving a message into a folder will now move that message out of your inbox.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the changes here. Thanks!

Thank you for the new update to the message center.
Like the new delete button to delete message from the same members individual.
I don't use folder. So it don't matter to me if that add.

Sounds great McYana, this will hopefully deal with many of the concerns previously raised about the message centre. Many thanks to you and your colleagues for your ongoing and sterling efforts!

Aryana,

Thank you for the updates hon. Great news for the members who use folders and wish to delete part of the email without deleting the whole.

Noticed many new changes when I logged in tonight. Looks Good.

Happy Thurs Hugs,

Not specifically related to the new MC features, but when I try to use the "laughing" smiley, it comes out like ) instead of .
.
I've used it twice, once a few weeks ago and again today, and the result is the same.

Great that the folders are back to organize the messages better.

Will the subject lines and style codes, like the ones right above the textbox in blog comments, ever be coming back?

And yeah, the smileys need to work right, too.

OK, now how do I go about RETRIEVING a message that I stored in a folder, since the folder's grayed out until a message is selected? It only MOVES messages, but there's no way to get to the folder to LOOK at the messages once they're moved.

I see that I have a new email but if it's part of an ongoing conversation that I had in a message that I moved to a folder, there is no way I can retrieve that message.

WHY are things always done half way and never thought out or tested properly?

Never mind. I found the drop down that shows the folders.

But still, it would be better if a new message that's part of an archived conversation thread comes in, that it would show in the inbox if the Unread filter is chosen, and that it would be put back in the inbox.

How hard would it be to collapse the older messages in a conversation thread and only show the newest message?

Since the G mail system seems to be used as a model for the message center, those who use this system will know exactly what I'm talking about.

At least I was able to find out what happened to the messages that seemed to disappear from my inbox, but in the end I wanted to stop using the folders. So I moved several threads that were in folders back to the inbox and they all disappeared. I can't find those conversation threads anywhere. And if they write me, I can only see it on the mobile version and not the desktop.

Where did my messages go? I moved messages to back to the inbox and they never got there.

I fully and totally agree with everything that Cougarwithclass said in her comment that i've quoted here.
These folders that you have now given us are not really folders are they?......Seems to me they are no different to the labels that already existed in the message centre before.
Why is the site making this so complicated???????
I DON'T WANT TO CREATE MY OWN FOLDERS, ALL I WANT IS THE BASICS OF ANY EMAIL SYSTEM ON THE WEB, AS IT WAS IN THE OLD MESSAGE CENTRE. i.e.....

1. An INBOX or ONGOING CONVERSATIONS folder
2. A JUNK, or DELETED MESSAGES folder (where i can retrieve deleted messages).
3. A FILTERED MAIL folder (from people who don't match my cupid settings).

NOW JUST HOW HARD CAN IT BE FOR THE SITE TO IMPLEMENT THESE CHANGES??????!!!!!!!

Its all well and good that we can now delete individual messages within a conversation, but as has been pointed out many times before, what if a message or conversation gets deleted by mistake?
We have no way of getting that email or conversation back again.
This is why a JUNK or DELETED MESSAGES folder is needed.
Come on this is not rocket science or brain surgery, these are basic features of most email services on the web, i.e, hotmail, yahoo, aol, etc.
As Cougarwithclass said "why are you trying to re-invent the wheel here???
All we want is a basic email service that is easy to use and works properly!

Also despite it being asked for time and time again by many members there is STILL no sign of any "subject lines" returning to the emails in your upgrades of the message centre????
Also still only 10 emails showing per page instead of the 50 emails per page we used to have in the old message centre!
Why does the site do Beta tests of things such as "live member webcams", and "Friends network redesign", and "Search" function on the site, but there is never any consultation or testing of message centre with the members?
We just get handed what the site thinks is best and the attitude of the site seems to be "Like it, or Lump it" when it comes to the message centre.
If that is the attitude the site wishes to take then my attitude in return will be to vote with my wallet and not renew my membership!
It seems to me many more upgrades are needed to get the message centre onto the same level of features and ease of use as the old message centre!

This is SAD, sorry to say Aryana. So many of the emails can be separated from other emails just by what someone wrote in the subject line. It helps cut down time on worthless and worth while totally. I seriously think you should reconsider this. When you get a regular email somewhere other than here I can guarantee you don't pay as much attention to one with NO subject line as opposed to one WITH a subject line.

Retrieving the baby thrown out with the bath water.

Hi all, I think the people who actually revamped the message centre aren't users of this site previously. Who actually wants to give much thought or classification into messages except those with High Functioning Autism or Asperger's? Or OCD?

I don't need folders. All I need to see are the people with their nicks and their pics to remember. I want the old message system where I can get to someone on the 17th page for example with only 2 clicks

AND know how many pages of mails I have without ridiculously clicking.

If I needed help at all, it could be helping me retrieve those who are couples/single females and single males or groups for e.g. to sort them out with a single click, but that you don't have... instead you've invested in some stupid system that messes up my perfectly straight forward brain and makes this into work.

I too do not understand why we can not have standard in, sent, drafts, trash folders/boxes like most other mail systems. I don't know if it because I use an ipad my auto-reply shows up as a message. And now since that is the reply that is sent to an email I receive I cannot just reply to an email. I have to go to their profile and start a new email. Why does the message I just sent appear as a new message in my mailbox ? If we want to have different folders, why can't we just add folders and name them whatever we want?

I work with quite a few software systems on a daily basis and find this email format to very user Unfriendly.

Thanks for your reply Aryana, but sorry the site is clearly NOT hearing what i'm saying, as i've made all of those previous points numerous times before here on your blog and also in the "Live from a.f.f." group.
If the site heard what i was saying then they would have already implemented these changes long ago.
Also i don't remember seeing any site member of staff saying anywhere on the site before that subject lines would'nt be added back?
I thought the site was always "open" to suggestions on improvements, and as rdy already pointed out, adding subject lines back again WOULD be a big improvement on this shambles of a message centre, we the members have to deal with here on a daily basis!

It's impossible to implement every suggestion made by every member, but we try to do our best to balance the needs of members and what works for the site as well. Subject lines limit communication between all our users. They were removed to ease communication lines on mobile and desktop site. We are always open to suggestions, but that does not necessarily mean you will see your suggestion come to fruition. We do the best that we can by providing solutions that benefit all members.

Aryana, i have quoted what rdy said here to highlight why subject lines improve communication between members. Subject lines DO NOT limit communication, the very nature of a subject line improves communication.
From a members viewpoint, you can often tell the content of an email just by reading the subject line alone. For someone who gets a lot of mail, i.e. most women on the site (i would assume), you can then sort through your mail quickly and take the ones of most interest just by reading the subject line alone.
People on mobile and desktop use email with subject lines such as hotmail, yahoo and aol, (among others) so i just don't get why the site is refusing to bring subject lines back again?

Limiting communications??? FOR WHO?? I don't think that "I" or anyone else should "HAVE TO" get communications from anyone they are NOT interested in i.e. some guy we have nothing in common with so HE doesn't get HIS feelings hurt. I can't speak for the men, but I am SURE they have messages THEY don't want to get i.e maybe the gay men. With a SUBJECT LINE you could easily tell if the guy is asking an honest question or hitting on said man, possibly. I am so sick and tired of you folks at the site worried about someone not being able to contact someone that is NOT interested in hearing from them... it makes me ill. If I don't want contact with someone "I" should be able to stop them from contacting me, not worry about them getting their feelings hurt because they can't contact me and try to get a piece of my a**. OUR preferences should count just as much as those.

It there. You need to figure out by yourself.
This are some way I can check.
1.You can type the username on the Search messages box.
2. Under Select drop down click, Read message and to see more click 'Get more conversations'. Click to open the member you had conversations with, you should read you exchange of you and this members by scroll down the message you open on the right.
I don't use folders which was added quite recently. You can organize it in the folder and check it .
But if you check to delete or throws the message from one particulary member, it will removed all the communication exchange you and this member had make. No option to delete one message by one message

I personally have not had any place that a message I have sent went to ANY other folder or location. When I send a message to someone it shows up in the list right at the top. I sent a message to someone and it wasn't there, he told me he never received it. I then wrote out another message and sent it, again never received. On the third try it showed up in my list of messages in that crappy message center and he then received it. So my thoughts, if it isn't showing up chances are they never received it. Unless you use a folder and literally move it or put a label on it there is no reason that it should be somewhere OTHER than in the main list of all messages.

This is exactly why the old message centre was much better and much more user friendly. It was just simpler and easier to use. The new one is far to complicated for its own good, takes more clicks to do things, ( i hate having to keep clicking "get more conversations" to get to older conversations). As you point out its difficult to keep track of who you have messaged if you don't have a "sent" folder, and you don't have a photographic memory of every username of everyone you've emailed.
I don't like sent and received emails being lumped into one line of conversation, i prefer and INBOX and a separate SENT folder.
The new message centre DOES feel like a chore to use, it should'nt feel like that as we all come here for fun.
I've started using another swingers contact site that has a message centre with subject lines. As many women realise a lot of men don't bother to read profiles they state in the written part of the profile that anyone writing to them MUST use a keyword stated in the written text of the profile and include in the subject line this keyword to PROVE they have read all of the profile. This way women can tell who has read their profile text just by looking at the subject line alone. Any mails without the keyword get deleted automatically. Again this is another demonstration as to why subject lines are an IMPROVEMENT ON COMMUNICATION. I now spend much of my time on this other site and have only visited Affairlook once in the last 5 weeks. There are many reasons i have lost interest in Affairlook site, but one of the main reasons is huge dislike of the new message centre here!

OH KUDOS on this post!! I have seen the women with the 'post this word in the subject line so I know you read it' idea and I loved it. So many do not read profiles and I actually saw men in our chatroom at 2am stating to just 'spam as many women's profiles as you can, one is bound to answer and you get p*ssy'. This IS how many do it and they do NOT care who it is as long as it is a vagina and not their hand. Some may like that, but I find it pathetic and totally a turn off that anyone would do that, but they do. Women are flooded with emails and the new message center does not do one thing to help US out at all. Imagine how many guys are flooding emails with one liners, copy/paste messages playing the numbers game, guys that think we are here to service them as the site ads tell them we are just ready to do anyone even if it is a lie, and that all lands in OUR inboxes.. oh yeah.. right.. we do not HAVE an inbox. They all land in that one long line that you have to hit 'get more conversations' over and over and over and over. Subject lines ARE essential to US as receivers to tell if they are just a guy looking to tap an a** or possibly someone looking for a relationship, which ever it is WE want to answer we can see it readily on many of them. NO TRASH BIN!!! So one mistake.. GONE!! The 'sent' folder also was essential. I understand the idea of the 'chat' look with all the replies being saved like it or not, but we used to have a button that SAID "save" and viola!!! you had it!! Some of us just don't want it, others do. The new message center does nothing to help anyone... not even the senders. I know many that have left because the message center (major reason) and other things here are just not working and are not right.

Thanks for the Kudos rdy, if only they kept the kudos feature you could have given me some on my profile, LOL, as it was a feature that i really enjoyed using on the site when i joined here a few years ago. When the powers that be who run the site got rid of the Kudos feature many long term members left. Then in their infinate wisdom they got rid of profile background bling which again saw another mass exodus of Lloyal long term members, then the new message centre, and it goes on and on and on, it really is no suprise to me the site went into bankruptcy a while ago.
Could the executives who run this site even organise a piss up in a brewery? .
It's obvious from decisions made here that they can't even make money from horny people wanting to meet for sex, LOL.
