Yes we agree with you. There is a problem with the way we are calculating unique responses, and we are going to fix it. It's bug INST-1116 for those keeping track.

The problem:
On the blog main page, the Active Blogs "(by unique responses)" is counting non unique responses. This has lead to members gaming the page to remain in the top spots.

The solution:
We are going to do what it says in the title and count each member as one unique response. This should put and end to the issues we are having.

I'll let you know the progress, but usually changes take a release cycle (up to a month) to be implemented. Just wanted to let you know that a fix is coming.

Because of the dramatics about the list, and so many becoming proprietary, and KNOWING the numbers were faulty - it was designed to give any members who wanted a 24 hour period in which time their blog would be inundated with comments - thus rocketing them to the tops of the lists.

Giving a new set of faces and proving that the good blogs are not necessarily those only found on the "lists" week after week.

It's been a great way to interact with new bloggers, find new reads and it's really quite fun. I have a series of recaps etc on my blog, there are lists and links on LadyUnlaced in her index .. and well - the new faces and names on the Most lists are most often HiJack victims...

It's a fun way to meet people, especially for "shy" bloggers like myself. With Hijack Tuesday one could just jump in, say HI , reply to any post before you know it, you are part of the more active and caring bloggers "community".

I would have never "met" man wonderful bloggers without HJT.

 Ok ... because I am a pain in the arse .... I need some clarity. Are you counting each person as being a unique response per post or does each member only get to count once for an entire month?

I encountered a great many strange occurrences on my blog. Photo's that are visible to me but not other members, disappearing commands, words, sentences paragraphs. New and older posts that appear to have been edited, not by me. Is this the work of the site? If so would I be notified? I wrote the site about this and an apparent attempt to edit my profile, also not by me several months ago and have yet to get a response.

It is easy to be misunderstood when talking to someone in person. When words disappear from a blog post, changing the entire context of a post, you can imagine what the results could be.

I've been having exactly the same thing! And it's not controversial things that are edited out - half the time it's just words, sometimes sentences or paragraphs, and the other half it's changes made in grammar and punctuation and sentence structure. I hate it, because at best it makes me look like an idiot who doesn't know when to capitalize (for example) and at worst it changes the whole context, or makes me say things I didn't say.
