The 2 Things That Will Get You Banned From Chat

In the last abuse post we started chatting about a common problem in the chats; innocent people that get booted from chat. The thinking is that sometimes groups of people go on a witch hunt and get a member kicked out.

I thought I lay out how our abuse team works and why they would ban someone.

How to reach the Abuse team:
The fastest way to get to one of our abuse agents is to click the "Report Abuse" button. They have all kinds of automated red flags that go up to manage those quickly.

That link is faster than phone and email. Even though you VIP's have your own line, you should still use that button.

How the abuse team approaches and issue:
The team is unemotional and will not get involved in any flame wars. They don't keep track of personal grudges and will not take sides. They do not want to kick anyone off and take it one case at a time.

They are looking for specific behavior that breaks our TOU. That's how people get banned.

What will get you kicked off:

1) Physical Threats of Violence
If you say your going to hurt/mame/eat someone you will get the boot. They don't care who started it, just that you crossed the line with physical threats. This is number 1 by far.

2) Defamation of Character and Accusations
If you accuse someone of having AIDS or call them a gonorrhea factory, that will get you banned. It a little bit more of a grey area than physical violence but you should steer clear of accusing someone of or or...you get the idea.

If you don't do these two things, you should be ok in chats. The witch hunts only work if the abuse team can see some form of Harassment or Threatened Violence.

Witch Hunts
This is a quote from the head of our abuse team concerning the witch hunts:
"We maintain a history of all chat conversations and agents are required to review the chat conversations and only take action based on evidence of a terms of use violation. If we receive multiple complaints we may take that into consideration when the evidence is thin, but we aren’t going to make a decision to discipline a member entirely based on complaints."

You tell me your experience. Have you been banned from chat? If so, did you do any of these things?

Ryan, there is an entire group of people being banned for 'swearing' it seems. Even I got it once. Again, the witch hunt is saying it is me whether I am in the room or not, and most don't seem to realize that ALL the chatrooms are having troubles. ALL the rooms are having a clamp down on violations. I can in no way shape or form be in ALL the rooms, but I am being attacked from every side saying that I had a hand in this somehow.

QUESTION... IS THERE an automated system that is going to hit key words that would 'automatically' recognize those certain words and ban someone just like the words that are flagged in the emails?? Because honestly, many of these people who are getting banned for using certain words are NOT in violation and ARE being kicked with what seems no rhyme or reason.

ALSO, doesn't this system with the abuse button allow an abuser to "frame" others by banning innocent people and then that person that hit the button claims someone else, the "witch", did it, thereby causing the mob mentality that attacks one person, seperates them from the group, and they are then victim to harassment??

Many of these people call in and the abuse violation is dropped and they come back in, so obviously there is some banning going on without complete validation of a violation beforehand. But then they lash out at the 'witch' without any real verification that it was them, just that person "A" over there said it was them, and the mob jumps on it. They don't always say a name, but you know who it is they are talking about. Innocent people are getting hurt here.

I've never been banned from chat, but I have had death threats from a bot looking for men to "woo". Fortunately, the guys in the room were savvy enough and they told her to bug off. Then she started attacking me. I just let her hang herself as she got angrier and angrier because she couldn't get a rise out of me.

I will report someone for abusing the members in a room to the extent that they are being vile towards others and won't stop. Let's just say it's not always difficult to tell when someone is either drunk or off their meds and are looking to abuse others with their words. Although it's not limited to that.

The funny thing is that most members don't read the TOU of the chat rooms. They are a little different in some respects than elsewhere. They need to be. More people put up with unnecessary crap than they should have to.

Ryan, I suggest you review the chat room TOU for yourself and get acquainted with it now that you've put this post up.

I rec'd a one day ban once for posting a phone number in chat. It was actually for a "rejection hotline" not MY phone number. I saw the error of my ways and didn't do it again.

People have threatened to have me banned for speaking Spanish. They say that the TOU state that one must speak "the common language of the room", which is open to interpretation IMO. If everyone starts speaking German, that becomes the common language.

When I DO speak Spanish, I am speaking to someone in particular who speaks Spanish and may not speak English -- and some live in the area that the chatroom covers. This stupid issue turns into a racist rant and illegal immigration debate with others. ????? People try to "order me" to the Spanish room, but there are like 300 people in there.

What is the site's standpoint on this?

Thanks!

Giving out phone numbers or off site email addresses seems to be a banning offense too, but here a bit of common sense from the mods would be nice. A friend of mine got banned for telling someone to call something like 1800 DREAM ON (Australian for "it's not going to happen").

The language thing that Laila mentions is an issue. Maybe the common language in Australia is English, but this is the world wide web. If a Spanish speaker wanders in, do I refuse to speak to them in Spanish? That does seem a bit petty. Besides which, I've often walked into rooms such as the Polish or Korean rooms and found them full of English speakers.

Thanks to all who voted for me!
AND THE WINNER IS

The Greek room at one point had a big problem with language,in there we chat in English and Gringlish, Greek in Latin characters as for some reason Greek as a Greek language is not allowed, maybe the characters.
Any way years ago we had a problem with Spanish bitch, she would come in, cam in Spanish and Latin and piss us all off,so we would report for abuse and get banned for Greek when she was ok with Spanish.

In the end we were told English only unless in a Spanish,German or Italian language room.

I've had 24 hour bans for giving out my addie opps and for speaking Greek,i often report Spanish speakers,(sorry all) for taking over the room with cams and there visitors.

The language is a problem, why should one group take over another s room.

    Quoting  :

The reason they are here is the almighty dollar. They sneak in and attempt to "woo" the men into talking to them elsewhere and eventually breaking out the credit card to "talk" to them, "see" them on cam or "help" them get a VISA and the like.

With a bit of common sense, the average guy can tell and at any point someone wants to re-direct you away from the site and asks for your credit card for any reason, RUN!

Also, they are typically, but not limited to, 19 - 25 yr old women with porn star bods, and "fall in love" within the first couple of e-mails. Read the profile and match the info with the pic. That's often a tell-tale sign.

When you find one, feel free to report them and help rid the site of them.

Good luck.

That I know of I have never been banned from chat BUT I have absolutely NO problem calling a spade a spade and IF someone is acting like an ass I am most likely going to tell them that they are acting like an ass.

There IS however a HUGE difference between saying "You're acting like an ass" and saying "You're an ass". The fact that the abuse team cannot discern the difference between the two is rather dismaying as it demonstrates that they LACK reading comprehension skills and IMHO that is ONE lack that should NOT be allowed or excused when it comes to the abuse team... especially if they are monitoring chat.

I have been a member here for 7 years...I have been banned a couple times for posting meet n greet info over the years. But until recently, when I told a certain person that I didn't like them in chat, I have never had any other issues with this site. Now my regular profile is completely gone along with one I had as a back up. To say that one person can't do this is absurd! This person knows if she didn't have an insider friend that works for the site (and this has been told to quite a few people that have actually met this person who brags about getting her gold ball for free , also), I'm quite sure my profiles would still be active here. You have lost and are losing several good people because of the BS that is going on in this so called "ADULT" site. The abuse team is a good thing to keep pyscho's out and is a needed tool in this site...but the people being deleted and banned are just fun loving people that have voiced their opinions, joked with each other, etc...and some because of the "connections" with the site one member has admitted having. I really think your abuse team needs a complete overhaul. I am also complaining about not being able to get an answer as to why my profiles have been deleted, not banned....GONE! I have been on cam here and bring in several people that like to watch me as well, but I guess their business isn't worth it to you either. Not really a problem as I'm already signed up on other adult sites that don't ban people for no reason and actually listen to the majority instead of the few crack pots that like to cause issues for anyone that disagrees with them. You have all the records and they can easily be checked, take a look at the # of people being banned in the Great Lakes Room, I'm sure you have been seeing a huge drop in the amount of people that even go into the chat room because of all the BS. But again...I'm sure it won't matter that I said anything here and you will continue losing more good people to other sites.

In the Terms of Use for this site, it states, in paragrah 5, section D: "The following is a partial list of the kind of content that is illegal or prohibited on the site - it includes content that.....promotes an illegal or unauthorized copy of another person's copyrighted work,...."

The picture you have posted, which accompanies this post is from the movie, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," which is the copyrighted work of a company or corporation, such entity having the same basic rights of privacy and possession of materials as any individual, this places you in direct violation of the terms of use, for this site, as stated.

.... Unless, of course, you have their written permission to use and/or distribute the image in question,... or the same, in effect, from a licensed distributor of such paraphernalia.

I've been going over the Terms of Use, as listed here,.. and there are a great huge number of potential violations, which get passed over every day, at least a hundred times. They get passed over, UNTIL, one of a certain select few members is criticized, ostracized, or in some way humiliated in chat, or on blogs, or through Affairlook mail.

When feelings get hurt, the magnifying glass comes out and fine print gets read, ... possibly by the light of a black candle, mounted on a human skull,... I cant be sure about that part,... but it does give an air of menace, doesn't it?

So if I feel offended by YOUR words,.. mr "community," why should I not drag out the magnifying glass and put your entire body of work, here under close scrutiny, as so many here have experienced?

You seem to believe there are no "witches" here. But perhaps you should speak to some who have been turned into newts,....

By the way,.... you DO remember how that scene ended, don't you? Turns out she really WAS a witch.

Very telling, I think.

My question is what about those who get banned for mentioning a meet anf greet. they have not violated wither of these 2 things in doing so. the abuse team has also banned people for the use of swear words, and contact info. i can understand in some cases where using vulgar insults towards another member can get you banned, but on one occasion one female got banned for calling herself a bitch. the reason, she was being abusive.

After reading what misterate said, I have to add 2 more cents to the pile of coins.

I say, "bite me" all the time. Sometimes in the chat room. We often reference biting someone's butt and such.

As I mentioned before, we "thwap" each other, in a friendly way. Not violently!

For the record, I AM NOT A CANNIBAL!

Can I stress the importance of not jumping to conclusions by members and common sense by the Abuse Dept?

Just because one member, even a good friend, suspects and says something about another member, does not make it so. When I hear "so and so did this" or "this new handle has to be so and so" and there is no verification, well, I feel like I am back in grade school again. That's why assuming is bad form in a chat room, but I see it all the time and there is usually drama that follows.

Anything said in a room can be innocent or malicious depending on the context. People often miss something or even think a comment is meant for them when it wasn't or misunderstand something and this is not limited to the members. If the Abuse dept is not taking the words into context, many mistakes will be made.

Yes, I know - I'm sorry about that. We have built a new meet and greet tool that should take care of all the meetups. It's being tested and I hoped to get it out by July. The point is that soon you'll be able to create meetups within Groups. Location, time, attendees - it will all be there. I'm actually really excited about it.
i cant wait to see that feature come out then! it should make things a lot easier then they are now thank you for your time in replying

Exactly! If the TOU state to speak the language that is shown in the title of the room..... the one I'm speaking of is "The South Chatroom." I know how to speak Southern, but I don't normally speak that way.

I am a nice person, and when someone comes in asking if anyone speaks Spanish, I speak to them. I'm not flooding the room, camming, taking over the room, or speaking to everyone -- just the one person.

One girl lives in Alabama and speaks SOME English, but is embarrassed to write much because her writing in English is not that good. She fears people will think she's stupid. I try to encourage her and help her learn more English.

There are two men I know personally who live in the Atlanta area who don't speak much English (and are not Mexican nor illegal, which is beside the point), and I speak to them in Spanish. Lastly, there are people from Spanish-speaking countries who may come in to talk to me or happen to drop in, and I speak to them in Spanish.

I've told the people in the room that we are NOT talking about them. (Why would we want to?), and if they wanted me to translate, I would. Instead, some in the clique go off on a tangent about Mexicans and illegal immigration. What does someone who lives in Spain have to do with illegal Mexican immigrants in the U.S. anyway?
