Do you like Kudos?

Do you like Kudos? It seems like people hate kudos since it is complicated and doesn't seem to make sense. Any ideas for making Kudos better or more fun? I've been tasked with fixing it. I honestly haven't even figured out how it works yet.  |

This is from my understanding when the Kudos was first introduced. Kudos was suppose to be a system that was designed and going to be used to giving members with a high Kudos rating more site privileges based upon actual activity and interactions in forums of the site; in addition, more recognition even by the staff when it came to concerns pertaining to the site. That was said by the former CEO when I questioned him about the reason of the Kudos system added and made suggestions of use of it. However, it seems that was nothing more than a smoke screen as neither one of "more privileges or recognition" was implemented. Below is a copy and paste about the Kudos system. Frequently Asked Questions about Kudos What are Kudos? Kudos are awards given by other members that recognize your positive contributions to the Affairlook community. If you post an interesting blog entry, or give some great advice in the advice line in the magazine, other members are likely to give you Kudos. What does a good Kudos score get me? You will get more visibility and credibility on the site. In the future, we will give other benefits to people with kudos such as faster post visibility, more weight in abuse reports, etc. Who can give Kudos? Silver and gold members can give kuds without restrictions. Standard members will be able to give kudos only to premium members with standard contacts or if they are classified as hot members. How is the Kudos score calculated? Members start with a base score of zero. You earn a higher score by receiving Kudos from others. You can see how many Kudos were given to you in each category and who gave them. The Kudos given are used to determine the score using a weighted average that considers the Kudos you receive in each category. Categories are weighted differently. The photo, video and profile categories count less towards the overall score. Where do I find the page to give Kudos? Initially, you will only be able to give Kudos on the profile page. How many Kudos do I get to spend? How are spending quotas set? Spending quotas are determined by your membership level and adjusted depending on your kudos score, with a starting quota as follows: Standard 1 Silver 5 Gold 20 Every 30 days your quota can increase if others have given you kudos. Each time you spend a Kudo you have to wait 30 days to get it back again. For example, if you spend 5 Kudos today, 30 days from now your "pool" of Kudos to spend will go back up by 5 Kudos. If you spend ALL of your points today, you won't have any Kudos to spend for 30 days. The day after that you'll get ALL of your quota back. Note: Standard members will be able to give kudos only to premium members with standard contacts or if they are classified as hot members. Is there a relationship between Kudos and other points on the site? No, they are not related. What safeguards are there to prevent abuse of the Kudos? Members cannot award more than 5 Kudos in a single category up to a total of 20 Kudos to any one member each month. Will you be showing the recipient who gave the Kudos? The default will be that Kudos given will show the handle of the person who gave them. Can I lose Kudos score by being inactive? The total score will gradually decrease daily if no Kudos are given. After 180 days without kudos, the total score will drop to 0 or close to 0. Can members choose not to participate? Members can opt-out of the Kudos system by changing their preferences setting to invisible from show. Their score will be hidden if they opt out, and other members will not be able to give them Kudos. When should you give another member Kudos? Here are some ideas: * They have a great profile or photos * They make good group posts, and are a valued member * They have an interesting blog * They are fun to chat with * They have a great webcam broadcast * They are fun to IM with * They have great advicelines, stories, or polls in the magazine Now personally I believe that the Standard Members should be allowed to award Kudos to other members without the restrictions. Why? Standard Members make up a huge part of this online community far more than the Premium Members do in comparison to activities and contributions to this site; furthermore, have done so ever since the beginning.

I truly have never really understood them.. or knew what their purpose here was/is... so please enlighten me .. when you figure them out too Can you keep a secret ?

We never understood them, or tried to get them. And when someone does give them to you, Passion takes part of the number given. ???? If you have a large number of them, the more you're given the less your number of kudos goes up. I've given 20 to a member with over 600 and they didn't get any of the ones we gave. We've quit using them. They are totally useless. We'd be happy if you got rid of them. They serve no purpose. Just our opinion. Thanks.

Ok, now that Nick explained what Kudos are and how they work in the system, this is a basic outline of what goes on. There is a list which shows who the top kudo receivers are. This gives the members on the first few pages a bit more exposure, if you bother to go visit who's on the kudos list. Many folks here don't know what kudos are or where they are and if I sign in on HotMatch, there is no kudo link on my home page so I have to visit my own profile to get to my kudos page to see who I've received them from. It's inconvenient and I don't much think about it unless someone brings up the subject. I do give kudos to the main bling makers that I take from. It's a simple thing to do for their hard work. Which is also why I don't mind paying a few points either. I don't often remember to though. Refer back to the previous paragraph. I often give them to other favored bloggers, again, when I remember to do it. I have gotten tired of having people randomly em'ing me to give them kudos so they can get higher on the list. I don't mind helping others out, but they can be rude so I pretty much ignore it anymore. Not only that, I had one bling maker get his nose tweaked because I gave him kudos in the "wrong" categories. Ok, so I can give up to 20 kudos to one person within a 30 day time frame. I have to split it up between the pre-set categories giving no more than 5 per category. This is where folks are forced to give kudos in categories they may not have any knowledge or interaction with the person. For example, if you look at mine, you will see I have kudos for my videos. I haven't got, nor have I ever had a video on my profile. What does that say? Why not allow me to give all 20 to a bling maker in the bling category. What's the real difference? The real difference is that bling makers will have higher bling numbers and lower "other" numbers, for the most part. Those with notable profile photos will have higher "photo" kudo scores than "other" categories. So on and so forth. Those who are given kudos for having a good blog, will be noted higher in the "blog" category. So on and so forth. As it stands right now, many people give the kudos in all areas just to give the maximum allowable. Not many people really care about kudos because they don't really do anything except for a few high earners gaining more exposure, when the kudos are looked at. Another thing. Standard members cannot see who gave them kudos. What's the point in that? What is the point in restricting any member? I sincerely doubt, with all my heart, that kudo sending or receiving will ever entice anyone to pay for a membership.

I think they are a waste of time/effort. Those who have the most Kudos are "Kudo Traders." I receive emails all the time from people who have left me Kudos and ask for the same in return. I do so just to be polite.

Seeing how it was being use by some on here, it is better to do away with the features. One less features for the site to bother about would give one less headaches for the site to bug with from members. Some of those profiles don't even had any of those viewable category done on their profile. But they got Kudos for. Which is completely a BS.Then they are those that Monthly getting Kudos on some of those different category that is viewable and yet they are not actively participating on them not seeing why those should get any or deserve any. Also I noticed some of those members out of of the USA they created lot of others fakes standard profiles to Kudos themselves and those that are their friends or Kudos trading friends. It also seem to Look like one loan you and you owe them back that how some use it even if they profile don't amaze one or done nothing much or not actively making update or participate on those viewable category on their profile. Just recently, I had one guy wrote me mentioned that I am short  of giving back all this Kudos he had given to me.Ugh!!!! I check what I can see and know about this profile before I give or not. Don't he understand what 'Kudos' mean? Should look on the dictionary one would find the meaning. I just like to points out since all this features you guys had no way to control how it is given or no one is checking to care. So I don't see it serve the real purpose unless you can find a way to stop some of this issue begin pointed out on how some use the features or find a way to improve that stop how it being use for. Really, It don't bother me if the feature is remove. It is better not having the feature on the site. Amen.

Ryan Kudos is a joke! Better to get rid of it and concentrate on more important issues that bother the members. No one is going to upgrade just to get or see their Kudos and that is the name of the game, isn't it? Passion need $$ and the best way is to entice existing standard members to upgrade and gold & silver members to continue to pay and for that the site needs to produce quality service which it has been sadly lacking in since I have been a member. Too many bugs and glitches and not enough knowledge behind site support to give any sort of confidence in the system. There will be an outcry amongst the Kudos whores (giggles) if you take it away but they are very much in the minority on this site and many are only in the top lists because they pimp for points by giving them and asking for them. The true ethos of Kudos was lost the minute it was launched due to the restrictions placed on the points by the site. Nick & Nassy said it all... The really good bling makers and true cam artists could not get up the table as points were being awarded inappropriately so we soon lost interest. Tell your bosses that the members say you have more important things to do and if you are looking for promotional ideas then why not do a promo of giving all new standard members a week free gold once they have been on the site for a week or so just as a taster of what they can see and get. I would be interested to see how many upgraded to keep their gold ball

waste of space as far as i can tell, some people have top kudos for blogs when they don't even have a blog. Please fix the front page and get local blogs,its been weeks now,folk are leaving fast as nothing is getting done. I'm a   and i'm here to stay

I really do not pay attention to the Kudos anymore, when I first came on I looked at them, but they were too complicated to figure out, too many hoops to jump through and then you could lose them so what was the point of giving it to someone. I got lots of issues with kudos. As Nascar already pointed out - you're forcing members to give kudos on activities we may not participate in. The part she doesn't know about because she's a Gold member is that things like videos aren't even allowed to be viewed by standard members at all. If I want to give Nascar max kudos for her most excellent and very helpful blog then I have to give her max kudos for things that I can't even see - even if she had uploaded a video or voice introduction. I'm not even going to touch on how stupid it is to give kudos on IMC when using the damned thing is about as fun as playing Russian roulette. I'd also like to be able to turn my kudos off and have them *stay* off. If it weren't for Nascar giving me kudos and telling me that she was able to because it was on, then I'd have never known it was still on because I'd shut off kudos when I first joined. I still can't get that to stick. If you're going to try to fix kudos - allow us to give kudos in areas as we choose. Don't make me give kudos for participation in activities I don't have access to, don't work or don't care about. If I want to shut it off and then make sure it stays off until I turn it back on. Put links to kudos in the main drop down menus and use some common sense. Don't only limit the number of kudos you can give but also the amount you can receive (obviously a much higher number) to prevent people from artificially pumping up their kudos. Give REAL rewards for people who consistently maintain a higher level of kudos. For instance - award popularity privileges (who here besides me knows what that is?) to standard members and perhaps a extra discount on renewal for paying members. (open to suggestions) Just saying. The only thing I HAVE to do is eat, shit, and die. Everything else is a choice.

Nice way to try and change the subject away from the real issues; your really sneaky, and that's really funny! I almost thought you were serious. A little late for april fools, but a good one anyway. I have a good idea for your next joke; you can tell us how you fixed all the important shit once and for all. Nah, wait a minute, nobody would believe that. But we have plenty of time to come up with another one. Especially since no one over there seems to be listening anyway.

I honestly didn't like the kudos idea when it started and don't see a purpose for it now. I agree totally with Soykofla on this. I disabled my kudos the first day they were included on our profiles, is a USELESS FEATURE that serves no purpose on this site. It doesn't get you a meeting or a connection that is for sure. I so know I am going to get voted down on this..roflmao. But it is "my" opinion.

Not only don't they do anything (and since I am high on the top members list, I have no reason to belittle them) but there is a group of members that simply goes around giving kudos and saying "give them back to me". In fact, virtually every top Kudos member is in this little club. If you could use them like points i.e. buy more membership time, or even for things like standard member contacts, etc, MAYBE they would serve a purpose. OR if they were directly related to site activity, i.e. # of blog posts, responses, bling made, etc, than they might serve a purpose.
