There's no place like home........

What is your favorite memory of your childhood Christmas'?

I think mine is going with my Dad to find that perfect Christmas tree. Sometimes we'd buy a live one and plant it after Christmas. But always, it had to be just perfect. I remember the smells of the trees on the lots, and the hot chocolate that my mom would make when we finally came home with that tree.

I also remember going ice skating with my Dad. He taught me to skate almost as soon as I learned to walk. He'd take my hand and we would go so fast that it felt like we were flying. I miss that flying feeling...........living now in warmer climates, I haven't skated for years.

I remember all these things as my Dad, who has always been my hero and my champion, is ailing this year. He lost a kidney to cancer a few months ago, and feels frail and useless. Suffering from depression about growing older and frail. Their tree this year is a small artificial one.....and yet....I'm longing to go home for Christmas.

Hey Fly! I'm going to try to go in January! That way, I get to celebrate my birthday there, and feel pampered and loved. It's hard to go so far at Christmas, when my children and grandchildren are here. And our own traditions here are very important too. Lova ya Fly!

Thanks Oldman1776...I hope you have some happy memories also. And Merry Christmas.

Sunny...how sad that your favorite memory just has to do with sex...although I guess there are some that would think that was just great. I DO hope you have some family memories also.

Tmdt4u...That is actually a great thing to live by. I will think of it often walking though life, and especially while I'm at home with my Dad. I know you miss your father, but I bet your memories are with you always.
