Has History Happened?
Has History Happened? Of course history happened. Blowing up ancient artifacts and architecture does not negate a cultural heritage. Unfortunately, it does affect posterity. I am disgusted that fanatics are destroying Palmyra, an ancient Syrian city. They're not destroying the inhabitants so much, although life is cheap in that area of the world, but the actual physical city. Some folks just have no imagination. Pity. |

I try really not to follow the news so much, but I did hear about this, and it's very sad, and apparently, they're doing a lot of bad stuff in Syria. When were you there? WITHOUT PASSION LIFE IS NOTHING

It's saddening and sickening. As well as destroying beautiful ancient buildings, I believe ISIS are also flooding the black market with historical artefacts, which is contrary to their beliefs a little as they are profiting from false idols!

"History" happens every day. (especially lately) I do pay attention to the news, and I find just about everything that I hear from this region to be absolutely appalling. (Although I consider myself to be a typical American Mutt, I trace my Paternal Name to this particular country.) Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

The group doing this has no thought to preservation of anything. Even themselves. They will gladly strap on a bomb if it means taking out even a few. That so many seem to embrace and join these radicals is scary to me. In Israel, I have seen what hate can do. In this group, they seem to hate everyone.

These are not humans who carry out these atrocities....not sure what they are but human is not it. I hate what this part of the world has become and how everywhere else has to put so much effort into self protection. ~~Anais Nin~~

Yes, cultural atrocity. I sometimes feel bad though, for feeling bad about such "things" when so many people are going through so much pain. Of course culture spreads ideas, and ideas sometimes help people. Still, what good would archaeological splendors be if we didn't put human life first?
