Walking With The Kingfisher
Walking With The Kingfisher The weight of the world seems heavy at times. When that happens I usually go outside and walk in the woods. It comforts me somehow. Perhaps by giving me perspective. The trees still stand. The frogs still jump. I realize every time that what had seemed so important was nothing more than a puff of smoke on a windy day. Then I go home and make cookies. |

That's neat! I enjoy losing it when I go riding horse's out in the country. It renews my soul and then I feel so fresh and energized!

sounds like a plan...so important to know what works for you. i'll admit that i just buy the cookies and the milk to dunk them in...really do love eating the cookie dough before it's baked sometimes though...especially chocolate chip cookie dough in agreement about the nature time... i'm ready for a couple of days in the mountains away from everyone as the leaves are so very pretty there now... sending you much love... Just a little food for thought............. If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you... {=}

A very lkarge kingfisher called a Kookaburra is our national bird. Its the Kookaburra that has that insane laugh that you sometimes hear in documentaries on Aussie wildlife. When the Kookaburra laughs at me I'm reminded not to take myself as seriously as I otherwise might. Good luck with your kingfishers. My blog is a free-fire zone. Come armed with a sense of humor

Keith, I am going to blog about this but right now I am in the middel of ritual Last night I went out to dance the night away since my three Virile and Quazi-Eunuchs are out for an R&R... actually was getting bored with them... Anyway, there is a protests at the Docks while i danced my prayers in our little Moulin Rouge. The Striker Brigade has returned from Iraq and want their toys back. The Youthful Anarchists, all dressed in black sat on the evening news... slowly getting plucked by police in full gear. So I danced on the other side of the bay watching the fires at the dock {actually they were the methane flames at the waste treatment plant next to the docks} until it was time to go home. Returning to East Bay {where I live and the Docks reside} I am alone on the road. Suddenly a police car comes around the corner lights on me!!!! I pull over on the sidewalk and the cop stays a half a block away with his flood light straight at me. Suddenly large semis come around the corner carrying the toys... don't ask me what they were... they were big and beat up but still look liked they could do much harm. Cop cars, semis, and little old me and my dog. I decide to get out of the Truck in silent protest and grief... I am almost in tears from the overwhelming emotion of being alone on the road with all this going on. I cover my face to hold back the tears, thinking of all the death preceeded this little parade for my eyes only. I couldn't sleep all night so overwhelmed with my over active pheromones, adrenalin and the parade of police and weapons of mass distruction. Well, that's my story of Why I stayed up all Night san a proper shagging technique and wrote.... [post 1137221]

The ocean does that for me as well. Nothing like sitting on a beach and letting everything go. hotandhorny1082

The sound of the ocean is great therapy whether you need it or not, hotandhorny. Normally I would be going to south Florida this time of year, but alas no beach trip for me this season.

Walking with the Kingfisher is a good title. The Greek word for kingfisher is Halcyon. In the myth of Alcyone the gods turned two drowning victims into kingfishers which appeared on or near the ocean around the Winter solstice when the seas are calm hence the phrase Halcyon days for days of peace and prosperity. Halcyon became a genus name for 12 species of kingfisher, none of which are found in the Western Hemisphere. However, the Belted Kingfisher, which I'm assuming you saw has the genus-species name Megaceryle alcyon; clearly the species tag is an anagram of halcyon . I've never heard a Belted scream before though they do make a fairly audible rattling noise. They are my favorite birds to watch. Along the Texas-Mexico border there are 2 additional species: the Ringed Kingfisher and the Green Kingfisher. Enjoy those halcyon moments--nothing like home-baked cookies. Hello there, mediumWalter! Thank you for leaving this very interesting comment in The Venting Blog. I did take literary license here. The call of this bird was a rapid chittering sound, and he made it while swooping back and forth over the lake. I first met him on a similar walk last year. I suspected he was a kingfisher and sketched him that day. Later I tried to match my horrible sketch to photos of native birds. blog on!

I can identify with the mood. I once posted a blog of the Little River Band's song, Cool Change. For me, even just the thought of water has a calming effect. If I am not fortunate enough to physically go to a calming place, I can at least visit it in my mind. AKA {=}
